I'll be watching this with interest and enjoying the carnage from the outside :)

Build battleships. Always more battleships :japan:

Looks like if anyone has the most to gain from a navy it's you with control of the canal, but you also have a massive land border to defend.

As I painfully learned the first conflict will all come down to diplomacy so I'm really curious to see how that shakes out, looks like you could go pretty much any direction.

I am really, really looking forward to seeing what "X allied with Y" messages start popping up and whether or not you know about them beforehand. As I recall in the last game it was me taking alliances without really thinking too hard that did me in.

Seems like if you get buddy buddy with Perm you could turn the entire central sea into a friendly lake, outside of you two looks like people barely border it.

Freedonia definitely looking frisky though, that should be fun to watch.

Freedonia keeps filling out his units, they are heavy with Flak and Infantry guns from his factories. Personally I think AA units should be specialised so you can shuffle them independently around but to each to their own. Infantry aren't particularly vulnerable to airpower anyway. I divert some more artillery this way and spread my mech-inf units out along the border. I also start my own AA production as finish building the railway up to the front. Looks like this border is going to get a bit hot sooner or later.

If there aren't any units missing from his TOE here I can only assume from the lack of bazookas or AT guns he's trying to substitute flak for real anti-tank units since iirc they have okayish stats against armour, at least compared to infantry. I think after the last game I'd move to independent AA brigades like you seem to favor but I get why they're tempting to load into regular combat units, especially once they get the extended range upgrade.

Now the war has started I have a bunch of active armies and commanders, if you would like to be immortalised in the game please let me know and i'll give you a commander or army named after you.

Put my name in, coach, I'm an excellent ATG commander :v:

Also, wow, that's a quick war. Definitely get the sense that either something is fucky or Freedonia doesn't really know what they're doing, doesn't make a lot of sense to me to declare war without any offensive formations ready and I can't believe he was intending to use that militia for attacking.

Pretty excited to see how this plays out now regardless! I'll be happy to either watch a grand conspiracy unfold or a tragic misunderstanding of how to attack in this engine.

I'm still so confused about why he's leading his forces with militia and it doesn't look like either of those kitchen sink HQs has any real transfer capacity to reinforce so I'm curious if anything is actually getting to his units.

The kill graph should look pretty slick from all the militia though!

I feel like focusing on destroying his army is more useful right now without knowing if there's any backroom dealing going on between Freedonia and anybody else.

Tactical genius that I am, pushing to the river on the pink line looks like a decent non-committal way to advance since you'd end up in a defensible position without overextending while also being just a tile off from severing Freedonia in two on that railway junction.

Somewhat recovered GI's 1st div come back for the units who pushed them back before with some help from Frank's 18th rifle. They butcher the disorganised infantry but lose an Armored car detatchment to an ambush by the defending infantry guns (I went digging into the combat report and first combat round the I-gun surprised an AC and killed it before being wiped out by the light tank).

That... actually makes a lot of sense. I was wondering why ~10 readiness infantry units would sometimes kill full readiness vehicles but I like that it's something sensible being modeled.

That was a plan? I think he's misunderstanding the point of MIlitia (lovely meat shields for whatever does the actual killing).

If he doesn't get a buddy to bail him out this is gonna be a short war.

As an aside reading this got me playing some games against the AI and reminded me of how much it sucks, if anyone wants to play a casual PBEM game hit me up.

I can't imagine this is what Freedonia had in mind when he declared war, it looks like you're pretty safe there so I'd be worried about what everyone else is doing and thinking when spring rolls around.
