Texas's spring game just ended and I'm... honestly not sure what to make of it. The orange team won 52-51, but the scoring system they used was totally bizarre; I think there should be a breakdown of how it worked online somewhere. For example, they actually awarded points to each team for stuff that happened during pregame drills.

Shane Buechele looked alright and will probably be our starter again, although he and the receivers still need to work on completing passes. Sam Ehlinger looked like he had some work to do.

Would love for somebody that knows more about football than me to post a breakdown with their thoughts and opinions. Especially regarding the defense.

Watching it now, although I doubt I know more than you about what to look for. Buechele is making good throws, and the 1st team D-line is having its way with the 2nd team O-line. The 2nd team secondary seems to suck pretty bad; they're just straight-up losing receivers regularly.

I really don't think you can tell much from spring games, other than when things go terribly wrong.

 They're renovating the locker room. $10 million, each locker will cost $10,500 and feature a 43-inch television.

25. Texas

2016 record: 5-7, 3-6 Big 12
Returning starters: 8 offense, 10 defense, 1 special teams

Key losses: RB D'Onta Foreman, WR Jacorey Warrick, G Kent Perkins, TE Caleb Bluiett, SS Dylan Haines

Outlook: Former Houston coach Tom Herman won't work miracles in his first season in Austin, but the Longhorns will have a chance to finish among the top four teams in the Big 12. Herman won 13 games in his first season as a head coach, and he'll be inheriting more talent at UT. Quarterback Shane Buechele gives Herman a chance to win right away, but the Longhorns will miss 2,000-yard rusher D'Onta Foreman. As many as 10 starters are expected back on defense, and that's where Herman and his staff need to do the most work. UT will get a big early test at USC on Sept. 16, and the Longhorns will play Big 12 road games at Baylor, TCU and West Virginia.

(There was also a tie in the North division, meaning that literally every team that finished above .500 can technically boast a conference championship that season.) The Aggies didn't even go to the conference title game, but still claim the conference title.

People are cutting cable, and ESPN has been a poo poo product for a long time. I would think retaining people to improve quality would be the way to go.

I guess like $5 million a year if you take an average salary of $50,000. The dozens that are public are all talent who for sure make more than that, but then they're probably axing a bunch of behind the scenes people too. Then health and retirement benefits that they don't have to pay for those people as well.

I mean, it makes some sense to me to block transfers in-conference or even to teams on the next year's schedules. Picking up a player from a conference rival could give the team gaining the player valuable insight into how the other operates.

But that same deal applies to coaches, even moreso, and it happens all the time.

I get that, but that's a minor thing and shouldn't outweigh a student's ability to go to the college of their choice.
