I echo chamber with other grad students and professors in my department, my lefty family, my fiancee and her journalism co-workers, and my leftist friends. I am the bubble and I don't have a problem with that because for the most part, save some family, they aren't fight song type liberals.

I talk to my parents about politics. It doesn't come up with anyone else. They both think the government is stupid and ineffective but they at least agree that it's necessary. My dad thinks the massive public expenditures on high school coaches and stadiums are absurd. My mom threatens some anti-vax ideas but I argued her down to admitting that her feelings come from a distrust in the efficacy of regulatory agencies and pharmaceutical companies more than any fear of the actual vaccines themselves. I think she left President blank on her last ballot, but still voted downticket.

my mom sends me abusive political diatribes late on weekday evenings about why I'm stupid for supporting "this junior, commie senator" and decrying why I'm against Trump, who she says she "know[s] he's not perfect, but his IQ is 156" who I don't know as well as she does since she has "been following Trump on Twiitter since 2011"

I like arguing with my father. He's a typical straight ticket R voter and it's quite easy to pin him in a corner of contradictory statements. My fav. is Bodily Autonomy vs. Abortion law.
