Facebook Aunt posted:Is there any way to test the UV coating on sunglasses? Like look at one of those UV light pens and if it is invisible that means the glasses are working. Assuming the lenses are made from CR39 polycarbonate there isn't really a need for a coating - it's basically opaque to UV light below 360nm.

JointHorse posted:Another sleepless night, another set of dubious electronics: I've bought a bunch of Arduino-stuff (mostly 3d printing related) from RobotDyn on AE and I've been impressed with the build quality - they also use nice-quality screw terminals, unlike most cheapo Arduino/RAMPS clones.

Snowy posted:Supposing one might want to send someone in need a possibly overpowered green laser are there any especially good ones on AliExpress? Just be aware that it only takes a relatively low powered laser to potentially permanently damage eyesight (both directly and via the high energy of the reflected dot), so if you're intent on doing this at least get yourself some laser safety glasses from somewhere that isn't Ali. Reflected lasers can also damage digital camera sensors as well: https://www.ilda.com/camera-sensor-damage.htm Dia de Pikachutos fucked around with this message at 07:46 on Nov 17, 2019 |

If you run the earlier image through topaz sharpen AI's stabilization setting it cleans up pretty well: If you're happy shooting in black and white, you can probably get better results by using a green colour filter. The lens is probably based around an achromatic doublet, which are usually designed so that they are corrected for spherical aberration at about that wavelength. Red and blue come into focus at a slightly different distance, which is why you get the green/purple colour fringing.

I bought a drone: https://a.aliexpress.com/_m0k5FVi It's surprisingly functional, although as expected the "4k" camera is missing a decimal point before the 4 and the range on the wifi video feed is a lot shorter than I expected. Was great on the weekend - my nieces (8yo and 10yo) had a blast flying it around at the park, and they didnt manage to crash it. 5 stars.

mobby_6kl posted:IMO worth it over the smaller one like (like https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006380068665.html) and it's a good price which goes up quickly for larger ones. I ordered this exact thing a few days ago! Hopefully it won't be too terrible, but for $20 I'm not too optimistic.
