Teams enforce/demand offset language arguing 1) past precedent and 2) their own veteran contracts have offset language." So if they cut a player and have to pay $10M in future guarantees but he signs with another team he has to pay them the money back.

You've alienated your new player, if he holds out you're stunting his development, and all to possibly recoup a little money if he fails (which you've just made more likely).

As long as he's signed in the next couple of days, I wouldn't worry about it. When is the last time the Bears had a hold out? They usually take care of this stuff quickly.
