Policenaut posted:My personal theory is that challenging Kiryu is like some kind of practical joke for the thugs, Yakuza, and other denizens of Kamurocho. Like everyone got beat up by Kiryu when they were younger and when they get new recruits they're like "hey if you see this dude you should go shake him down it'll be easy!' and they just sit back and laugh. Also, street thugs just can't resist fighting anyone who has that old man smell.

I love how consistent Kiryu's characterization always is. Rule 1: Never compromise on anything ever. Rule 2: If something interferes with Rule 1, beat it until it stops. So I was like, hmm, a Shogi parlor, I don't remember that, this seems like an interesting game ...

It's like they took Saejima's dojo from 4 and removed everything that had an element of enjoyment or player control to it. I mean, it's pretty upfront rock/paper/scissors that lets you try to button mash to resolve a tie. I'm not sure what's to bitch about, you know exactly what you're getting after you play it once. You also can get such a dumb amount of money from real estate that I don't think anyone is too bothered by losing a few million on Rumble Roses Salty Bets. You also can easily save scum it if you're not to the point of burning money yet. The first time I played it, I went outside, saved, plunked down 10 million which was most of my bankroll at the time, and won like 50 million back. Thanks weird porno librarian looking lady! I have some silvers that do better than my golds at times, especially if they are really high in one stat. I think their theoretical max will always be lower. I enjoyed capping out the Real Estate and Caberet Clubs and that got me enough fat stacks to upgrade all the abilities I cared about plus do a good portion of the legendary trees. I'm almost done with the main story and I think I have almost all of the actual substories aside from maybe one of the telephone girls, and that's probably going to be good enough for me after I finish the story, I'm not crazy enough to need full completion on all the minigames. The nice thing about those games is that all you really have to do to get better at them is just keep playing. I liked Luka being all "I got a new high score on Outrun, it's 1.5 million!! Deified Data posted:Anybody else have that problem in games like this where they'll give you opportunities to break away from the main story and do side content for a while, but things in the story are way too urgent to be put off and it kinda breaks your immersion to try doing side content when, say, someone's being held hostage or being chased by assassins? I'm in chapter 10 or 11 and it feels like the story hasn't given me a chance to come up for air in a looong time I do the opposite, I always wander off to do side poo poo at the earliest possibility. Which leads to situations in most games where it's like "WE HAVE TO GO SAVE BETTY, SHE'S BEEN KIDNAPPED" and I go screw around for six months and then when I return to the main quest I show up in a suit of ultimate power armor with a +17 sword of instant decapitation and the midboss is there with a couple of daggers going "oh fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck"

I'm a simple man, I leveled everyone to get all of the easy attainable cross-class skills (basically everything like level 12 or below), and then dumped everyone into a class where their normals regain MP so I could spam skills all the time. So I been running Fortuneteller/Host/Hostess/Idol (Nanba spoiler and Homeless Guy when he is around) for most of the game. Of course, cross-leveling all those classes early means I've been ridiculously overlevelled for most of the game, I think I was like level 30 in chapter 6, so it hasn't much mattered what I do for a long time now. As for AOE, the shield bash one in Enforcer is cross-classable, has a surprisingly wide range, and you get it at level 4 or 6, I forget which, so you can get it in like two minutes. For the ladies, I think I've been using the Night Queen kick, although for the party member in Idol she usually hits the "all enemies defense way down plus charm" button first.
