Y4 Remaster just released in Asia like a week or two ago (I think it's available in Japanese and Chinese at least), Y3 was a bit earlier. Y3 and Y4 had some adjustments/censorship done for their western PS3 versions so they might have another go at the localization, although Y5 PS3 was mostly up to the standard of the more recent translations. I have a feeling they'll release Y3-5 remaster as a single $60 SKU or something along those lines.

4 and 5 are also on PS Now. 3 isn't, and is actually disc-only in English and I think a bit pricier than it should be as a result.

So I've played Yakuza 0 and just started Kawami and I think I'm missing some poo poo.

What am I supposed to do when enemies go down on a knee and start regaining health? There's never a heat option and I know the tutorial touched on it briefly but I have no idea what to do.

The first boss I fought was not knocked down or staggered by anything, I don't know if it's just how that boss works or is something I'm doing wrong gameplay wise but it made for a very bad and boring fight.

Fighting in Kiwami is kind of a pain because of this.

Don't worry too much about the Shimano fight as long as you get through it, it's a slog.

Keep burner weapons (it doesn't have to be good) and Tauriners on you, so if someone starts healing you can immediately boost your heat and, if necessary, use the burner weapon in a special attack. Even if your weapon is poo poo it'll interrupt the healing.

There are four different "aura" colors while someone is healing, corresponding to the different stances (Blue is Brawler, Yellow is Beast, Pink is Rush). While you'd think Red = Dragon it doesn't seem to actually work, so when a red aura is started that's when I do the "burner weapon" trick.

Also if you need a break from Majima Everywhere, when you get to one of those "storyline" points before a Majima Everywhere Rank Up (when his lackey texts or calls you with a clue about where Majima is waiting for you) there won't be random Majima fights out on the street until you go to this location, which can be avoided as long as you want (but you won't level your Dragon Style that way, and also Majima fights give a lot of EXP in the late rank stages).

I didn't know that about Japan and drugs. I guess that explains why you rarely (if ever) see anything about drugs in these games about organized crime.

On a somewhat different note, there's a Chinese movie whose name I forget, maybe 15-ish years old, about a cop who loses his gun (with 3 bullets in it IIRC) and his neighborhood freaks the gently caress out because there's a loose gun out there with three bullets.

Later in the film someone undercover goes to a black market dealer who boasts about being able to get anything, and when asked for a gun he reacts like the person asked him to assassinate every world leader.

I gotta say that's an impressively fast turnaround on pulling the game from circulation. I think it's pretty much guaranteed they're going to patch that actor out, fortunately modern games don't make this particularly hard.

Imagine if Nancy Reagan and the director of Reefer Madness were cranked up to 11 and given full power of shaping public and legal policy of drug laws in a country. That's Japan. The public perception of drugs there is completely bonkers and is one of the few things a celebrity can do that's career ending, probably second only to acknowledging Japan's war crimes during WW2, or being on live TV less than 80 hours a week, or being a female J-Pop idol with a boyfriend.

Yes you're correct. The movie I'm thinking of is a different film and much more recent than Stray Dog (I saw it at a film festival in Montreal when the movie was fairly recent).

I remember the "three bullets" part distinctly because the police officer's superior was chewing him out for it and basically treating the loss as "welp three people are dead because of you, they just don't know it yet", I think even taking it to an extreme and saying a trained assassin could have done Deadpool-style 360 noscoping and killed six people with three bullets.

Pierre Taki is getting nuked from orbit.

He was also the voice of Olaf in Disney's Frozen and is being replaced for Frozen 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3. Knowing Disney, they may well redo his dialogue for future releases of the 2013 Frozen, they've done exactly that for way less with other VAs.

That’s... you know, that reminds me a lot of how the Wii versions of Metroid Prime 1 and 2 were handled; Japan got them as separate and discrete New Play Control releases while overseas got a nice steelbook collection of the whole series.

Yeah it's far from uncommon for US versions to get a jazzed-up version of a Japanese game in some capacity. Hell, Final Fantasy VII was an early example (the US version had extra content compared to the original Japanese version and they backported this content into the later "Final Fantasy VII International" version, and this pattern followed for quite a few other games especially in the PS2 era from Square Enix.

It would probably be easier to justify to release them in the West as a set too, since the games might not get equal treatment in terms of localization (e.g. I could definitely see them retranslating 3 and 4 but not 5, since that translation was far more recent and that version of the game was complete).

Well 5's not available on disc (at least not in English) which helps narrow your choices down. :v: Could be best to outright re-buy them digitally so you own them for good, if you don't want to wait for the PS4 Remasters. Also 4 is one of those games where the disc and digital don't register the same save files, so if you've already played it some either digitally or via PS Now you'll need to get it digitally unless you restart.

Figured they would, like I alluded to earlier, Disney France redubbed a sizeable stack of their French movies in the 90s due to them wanting to gently caress over one of the voice actors, which makes people who grew up in the 70s-early 90s who are nostalgic for the dub they grew up with poo poo out of luck officially. Disney is big enough and has an entire side company exclusively for handling their main dubs (Disney Character Voices International), and paying $750k for a new dub of something is peanuts compared to even "small" legal issues, given their size and reach. However, there's a :filez: scene not unlike what happened with the Star Wars OT, for French speakers trying to preserve specific French dubs Disney has disowned (they even recovered a thought-lost Snow White dub from its original French release in the late 1930's).

Glad I imported the Japanese Blu-rays back when they were released.

I won the Gambling King's on the first go, guess I got lucky.

But yeah, good advice is that gaining 10% or losing 10% of your territory means essentially nothing, it's way less bad than losing an expensive property in a money fight, for comparison. I think at worst it costs you an extra 5-10 minutes of grinding, not even really worth reloading to try again.
