SniperWoreConverse posted:What are the other ultra-terrible presidents? Who's trump actually on par with? Roosevelt felt an alliance with Russia after WW2 was crucial. He empathized with their people's sacrifice and recognized that they had been essential allies in the war. Truman was Roosevelt's 4th term VP. The Democratic Party establishment pushed out Wallace, the VP from the last 3 terms, because he was too socialist. Truman met with Roosevelt twice during his term before he died. When he died, Truman trampled Roosevelt's diplomacy. Truman was a bullied nerd growing up and wanted to be a big man to make his dad proud. He took a hard rear end stance with Russia and accused them of violating Yalta, when the other allies were at least equally culpable. Truman dropped two atomic bombs on Japan to show Russia that we weren't kidding around. I think Truman came closest to wiping out humanity, by helping to start the Cold War. He is my nominee for the worst President.

Cthulu Carl posted:Truman apparently ranks consistently in the Top 10 When Truman took office, there was a divide in his administration. The military leadership favored diplomacy with Russia, the industry leaders wanted a "permanent war economy." The industry leaders were from a class of people who despised socialism. I guess people really like the permanent war economy!

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/03/06/white-house-officials-stand-by-trump-wiretapping-claim.html "Counselor Kellyanne Conway, asked directly on “Fox & Friends” when the president may have first heard of possible wiretapping in Trump Tower, said she would not “reveal that.” But she noted “it’s a big place,” adding: “If we don’t know, then let’s find out together.”" Lol.

It's funny how overused "slam" is in politics headlines. A "slam" can be anything from polite disagreement to hateful condemnation. That last article was from Yahoo. Fox and Breitbart both have "slam" headlines up. Did they start going overboard with the slams a year or two ago, or has it always been this way?

Hmm, good point. ScentOfAnOtaku posted:If you think that's bad look at how much the BBC uses the word "row" in their headlines. There are usually one or two a day, which you'd think they would buy a thesaurus and use something else. You're right! It shouldn't bug me, but it does. It's like they're writing for search engines instead of people.

Three Olives posted:Adam Davidson made a great point about the Iraq war saying it was actually kind of popular at the time until the evidence became overwhelming that it was a complete clusterfuck and people that supported it at the time will act like they knew all along that it was going to be a disaster and were against it. Even as it began it seemed clear they were grasping at straws, but both parties were eager for a war in the wake of 9/11. Also, no one involved faced any consequences for misleading the public. John Bolton lied to Congress to make the case for the Iraq War and has been rewarded with the position of National Security Advisor.
