Like in John Wick. Is there a term for it? Also, has it ever been good? Every time I see a movie that does that, I wish it didn't.

Don't Breathe does it pretty well, I think. When it's pulled off correctly I think what they're going for is a "Huh, how do we get to this?" at first and then a "OH RIGHT, THAT HAPPENED" the second time.

A cold open is getting straight to the plot of a movie/tv show without a title sequence or beginning credits. Not that they're mutually exclusive.

I just watched that spy neighbours movie with jon hamm and wonder woman and they do this it starts off with their house exploding and then goes two weeks later and it's just like whooooooo the gently caress cares. Bad movie.
