I'm hoping he screws up in a more low-key way this time. Like maybe he steals a tricycle from a child and then crashes it into a slightly overfilled newspaper kiosk, running away without bothering to pick up all those papers first. If he keeps escalating we're going to get into a weird kink spiral where he has to do unspeakable things just for us to hate off anymore.

i also don't think it's wrong to call a woman beautiful in the context that her job is literally to look beautiful. they spend all day every day basically managing their diets and working out to look like that. it deserves praise.

and no-one should be surprised the falcons lost. they stole the packers' soul and the packers' whole thing is absolutely convincing you they're gonna make it only to choke in the most frustrating way possible. they win the super bowl once every decade or so just to prime you to be maximally disappointed in the following years.

Being attractive as a female fighter was a definite thing promoters and fans were looking for early on for WMMA and it's not something that's gone entirely now. It's definitely easing off and WMMA gets praised on its virtues outside of sex appeal a lot more often now but it's pretty much revisionist history if people are going to claim it's never been a thing.

i dont think anyone here is unaware that women's mma basically became a thing because Gina Carano was pretty enough for strikeforce to push and then Rousey was pretty enough and dominant enough to convince people that the women's division was increasing in quality.

im not convinced it's actually unique to women's mma either. GSP drove a hell of a lot of PPV buys, it's just harder to say for certain how much people weigh attractiveness when evaluating men's mma because the men's divisons have been stronger for longer and you can't really isolate particular factors from the numbers.

Are there many elite female athletes out there who are too big to make 145 if they were fighters? The famous "Big Female Athlete" is Serena Williams, and according to google she's 5'9" and 150 lbs - pretty much the same as Ronda.

Well there's a couple things: 1 is that they underreport the weight of female athletes much in the same way that male athletes weight is sometimes overreported, but again look at people like swimmers, shotputters, that sort of thing. Katy Ledecky, for example, is 6'0" 159 pounds, and Allison Schmitt is 6'1" 163lbs. They're both swimmers. If you are a woman with huge muscles and into athletics that's the kind of place you tend to get funneled to.

I'm not necessarily saying there's thousands of women like this out there. Just that the few that are are definitely not doing MMA. Even if they all were it would probably still be a thin division.

Maybe Holm has some cachet from beating up Ronda, but it's hard to sell a PPV where the headline is a title fight between also-rans from another division.
