Actually wait no cancel this own, plastic instrument games weren't all that fun at parties and everyone always wanted to only play guitar in rock band

Bass was the "I'm too drunk/not drunk enough for vocals or guitar" option

Much like in real life

I dearly hope that nothing in Phoenix Wright games is true to life because what the gently caress. Witch trials are conducted with more even-handedness.

Wait, what? I had that game and played the gently caress out of it, in what way was it unplayable? Load times? I don't remember them at all, and I tend to remember poo poo like that (Okage was so loving good except for the load times).

Yeah that's weird, I played it on My First PS2 which was a 2001 model. By 2004 it had stopped reading DVD games but it would still read CDs.

Unlimited SaGa was great and I'll brook no dissent

So I just tried Sonic Generations for the first time ever. It's a very Sonic game. 90% of the time I don't seem to have any control over where I'm going, and the game does not seem to want me to care about that, despite having hidden unlockable things that require you to replay the level only going slower so you really get a good feel for Genesis era control responsiveness

I like it

The noticeable input lag on the Steam version is not an artifact of the Genesis emulation, it's just an engine problem.

I'm playing on PS3 tho. It's not input lag, it's the design decision to have Sonic handle like rear end

I just use a cheap Logitech controller because I'm too lazy to walk 30 feet to the bedroom and get a PS4 controller, and also I can think of maybe one PC game I own that I legitimately prefer using a controller with.

I'm going to see the Pixies in September in Toronto. Holy poo poo.

The fact that their new album ended up being amazing and not a flaming pile of horse poo poo is still shocking my monkey

Like when the Dinosaur Jr. reunion turned out good albums you could say "well duh, Lou Barlow turns everything he touches to gold" but the last couple Frank Black solo albums and that bizarrely bad Breeders reunion were dirty

Dinosaur Jr. might be the only good reunion I can think of, in terms of making good studio records. Reunions in music tend to be awful. I've actually been really hesitant to listen to the new Pixies record because I haven't heard good things. However, Doolittle and Surfer Rosa are loving amazing, and I've heard they're still on point live. I may try it now, though.

Oh poo poo, they have two new albums. I was referring to Indie Cindy, which is really good, I haven't listened to Head Carrier yet.

What's a good game to play on my (non-gaming) laptop? Looking for something I can play for a 30 minute break every day or so. I have FTL, Dungeon of the Endless, and Dungeons of Dredmor which I like, but looking for something new.

Desktop Dungeons for sure
Guild of Dungeoneering is also good, maybe even better (though less crunchy and more random/casual and you really want the expansions for the better loot cards and the Ice Cream Monk)

The first time I got to FF4's final dungeon I realized I was horribly under-leveled and had to grind out like 15 levels. That was not really fun at all.

e: also final dungeons with rehashes of older boss fights that are now much harder can eat all the bags of dicks, especially FF1 with its bold "save points are for wimps" design

There are a lot of games that I didn't like until 6-7 hours in.

Persona 3
Persona 4
you know what, just imagine "every JRPG ever except for like 10 of them" is written here

But also stuff like Batman, Arkham City had kind of a slow start where I was like "This is pretty cool, I guess?" until the deeper systems opened up

Oh yeah, I finally beat RE7, I ended up having a hilarious ammount of ammo at the end because I had heard "poo poo gets crazy" and tried to save it. Turns out that no, on Normal you can and should just blast everything because you get so much ammo. One boss fight even has a room right before it with a conspicuously large shelf of Grenade Launcher Ammo.

Anyway, the ending. Hahaha. Like I figured the Grandma would somehow end up being the final boss, but not... quite in that way

Is River City Ransom really that good

(serious question because I haven't played the original and I think people say the 3DS one or whatever is really good)

The very genre it operates in excludes it from ever being "really that good" though it may well be "good" or possibly as much as "pretty good" but the core problem with Press A Go Right games is that there are never any bloody consequences or context!!!

that's my yahtzee impression
