Surely another team can offer better than Maatta + first or whatever. i'd like rutherford to trade for duchene because i don't like the idea of counting on bonino magically finding his game just in time for the playoffs - being able to roll 3 scoring lines lines was so crucial for the penguins, and what team could possibly match up with 3 1st line centers (plus cullen, who's pretty much a 3C)? with that kind of center depth, plus the wingers the penguins have now, i feel like the defense almost wouldn't even matter. granted, what the penguins could offer the avalanche for duchene that they'd actually take is a mystery, because most deals i can think of don't make sense for the avs, but apparently it's a rumor with some traction lately

Penguins recalled Cameron Gaunce and Steve Oleksy. I still barely know who Gaunce is but Oleksy is a lovely punchman so all I can hope for is that if he has to get into a pointless fight he at least gets Dubinsky good.

+/- sucks because it might as well be specifically made to penalize players for being leaned on by their teams offensively, doubly so if they're surrounded by lovely teams. If your coach only puts you on the power play but not the penalty kill? That only hurts your +/- because you can only get minuses while you're on the power play while penalty killers can only improve their +/-. Get lots of ice time because you're good, but your team is bad? That's just more opportunities for you to get minuses from your team mates' fuckups. Since it's a counting stat you're only going to go deeper into the hole the more you play. Not to mention if your coach puts you out for empty net situations because you're their best hope for scoring goals...more minuses!

Malkin got away with one with the Wheeler hit. Basically it comes down to the DoPS having no real fixed criteria or standards for what is or isn't suspendable or how long a suspension any infraction will get, so any given suspension is a crapshoot. It's pretty lucky that Wheeler wasn't hurt, at least. Chris Pronger probably saw Wheeler come back on the ice while Malkin was in the box and decided he put his head in the way of Malkin's elbow to draw a power play.

so i guess we'll find out the truth eventually but there's rumors that trevor daley's injury may have required season ending surgery and if that's true then i think jim rutherford should probably do whatever is necessary at the deadline to take advantage of the opportunity he has to ice a playoff team $7 million+ over the salary cap

Wow you nerds and your fancy stats like "time on ice" and "even strength points", let me tell you something, I once saw PK Subban try and make a cute play with the puck...and lose it! Shea Weber won't do that, and he's big and mean, too. Because a guy hitting other guys so hard it makes them scared to do stuff and they play worse is a thing that happens at the NHL level. Plus Shea Weber is a good leader guy who knows how to win, which he's done a lot of during his time in Nashville, unlike PK Subban who just did so much losing in Montreal, except when some other guy lead them to winning.
