boner confessor posted:it's a mix of both. there are absolutely paid armies of sockpuppets but the much larger, louder, and incoherent group are people who willingly repeat media talking points out of the compulsion to express their opinion (which isn't really their opinion) There was that article about Russia having armies of trolls who push various pro-Russia/anti-America viewpoints on social media, I distinctly remember the phrase "I'm farting and scared Obama is a bad president" in there somewhere. So it's real, that's just the Law and Order'd version of it.
