are there any early thoughts on how the constitutional convention ref vote will go this fall? my union rep was very doom and gloom about workers rights surviving a rewrite.

i love how america's most populous city has less say over its own affairs than Scranton, PA, as proven yet again by Cuomo's bottomless well of spite by ruling that we can't have a 5-cent bag tax ever

your rep isn't wrong in fearing that, there were similar fears over the vote in Italy. i'm against it but i don't think that there's any polling that has a bead on it either way

The NKD people talking about the convention basically said:

1) There's a policy group forming to study the possible outcomes and strategize about it.

2) Cautious optimism that a convention could finally allow for a lot of progressive and anti-corruption reforms being perpetually blocked by machine politicians on both sides to finally go through.

That being said, I don't know enough right now to say how realistic that optimism is. OTOH if you told me IDC types and machine Dems will use labor fear to poison the well against a convention... I probably wouldn't find that too far fetched either.

Can you do an effort-post on what the various left groupings are up to activism-wise?

I live in the armpit between Buffalo and Rochester, but outside of the politics (and racism), I really like the area. Rochester and Buffalo are both very nice cities to live in, assuming you can find a job.

edit: gently caress Cuomo, Schumer, Gillibrand, et al

My FIL has a bunch of land near Albany. It's really nice to go up and visit and not hear cars honking and go on a hike in the woods and smoke some weed. I know there are some serious economically stressed areas up there that need a lot of help and I'm all for it, but as someone who grew up in the densely packed areas of along Island and living in Queens now, the change of scenery is nice.

The universal truth is our politicians are pretty bad.

Any state that is a "safe blue/red state" is bound to have horrible politicians because they don't even need to bother with fielding good candidates since they will automatically beat the opposition every time

We banned fracking, but that doesn't mean we can't have pipelines going throught the state. Not even within throwing distance of a rundown nuclear power facility.
