Surely it's not a red flag that the Patriots are actively trying to trade away the #1 backup to their starter who turns 40 this year! :haw:

What I love about Cutler is how everyone ends up disappointed and hating him for being exactly what he always was for his entire career.

Why does the number of games JG played in keep growing?

He played 1.5 games as a starter and one of those games they would have lost but for a missed field goal.

Also the Cardinals turned out to be garbage this year, and the Dolphins improved later in the year but sucked really bad to start with (1-4 start, 9-2 finish.)

Passer rating is fine if you essentially just want to amalgamate TD%, INT%, Y/A and completion %.

ANYA is better, and PFR has it for everyone forever, plus ANYA+ to compare across eras.

There is a version of ANYA without sacks on PFR but I forget which one it is.

that's really cool, how'd you index it like that? I'd like to see active players over their careers. There's no question ryan had an amazing year (his y/a was 9.3, almost 2 full points over his career)

1) So I found the average, which was 7.1.
2) I arbitrarily decided that I wanted to make the average = 75, so it's like grades in school. This has no real meaning other than being easier for my brain to process than the difference between 7.2 and 8.3 or whatever.
3) Divide 75 by 7.1. That gives you 10.6
4) Multiply everything by 10.6.

e: There is an easier way to do this, even. PFR has every stat for every player already indexed against the league average for every year, the only difference is that they index the league average to 100 instead of 75. If you want to turn them into "letter grade" #s just multiply them by .75, like this:

code:
Year	Age	AY/A+ ANY/A+	Rate+
2001*	24	79	77	83
2002	25	77	79	83
2003	26	80	80	80
2004*	27	88	89	86
2005*	28	86	87	86
2006	29	80	81	82
2007*+	30	107	107	111
2009*	32	86	90	87
2010*+	33	95	96	98
2011*	34	98	99	95
2012*	35	88	90	87
2013*	36	76	77	76
2014*	37	81	85	84
2015*	38	89	89	89
2016*	39	101	105	100

IN GENERAL I don't personally care what athletes think about anything. Most of them are idiots about anything important in the world (like most people in general.)

That doesn't mean the athletes who aren't morons should be shouted down for trying to use their fame and fortune for good causes, though. Just because MOST of their opinions on important issues are dumb white noise doesn't mean the world would be better off if they ALL shut up.

I dunno, I tried to have a hot take there and it came out boring. :effort:

I don't know that Romo especially cares about getting a megabux paycheck. Everybody likes money and all, but the Cowboys have already payed him immense sums of money, and as far as I know he boringly saved 99% of it instead of blowing it on cocaine/gambling/whatever.

The only remotely sane motivation he has to keep playing is to win a Super Bowl. I imagine he'll make any concession within reason to go to a team that he could plausibly make a contender.

The alternative is he's just too brain damaged to know when to quit, in which case whelp.

Brady has reached the point where anything he does is going to get an ex post facto rationalization as being "good leadership" because of his past success. If he farted he'd get credit for "breaking the tension" and "keeping everyone loose" or some nonsense.

If his "intangibles" matter at all, it's probably only insofar as his past success gives everyone a little more confidence if things look lovely. What that's worth compared to "Going apeshit in the 4th quarter & OT after starting lovely", I dunno. :iiam:

It was either a 4th if no comp pick or the 3rd round comp if the Browns got one.

No. 2: Cleveland → Philadelphia (PD). Cleveland traded this selection (2nd) and a conditional fifth-round selection in 2017 (this selection would be upgraded to a compensatory fourth-round selection if the Browns receive one in 2017) to Philadelphia in exchange for Philadelphia's first-round, third-round, and fourth-round selections in this years draft (8th, 77th, and 100th) as well as Philadelphia's first-round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft and second-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft.[source 2]
