Expected enemy route

Actual results

I'm ... not actually sure how to read this :v: We broke their center, they are split, but we don't have any forces to commit to it.

If we look at their center mass / avenue of approach, it looks like they are going for Dejuener Ridge and La Cote. However, I don't think La Cote is their objective. If it was, they would have deployed much more differently in the opening - instead, I think they are simply responding to our deployment.

What this suggests to me is that their objective is on our western flank - Haltebruit, Quatrepolis, or Graisse. They've been focused on the southwest since the opening, no matter what we've put in the way. Meanwhile, their eastern portion isn't in a position to support that attack, while they can continue pressing us. As such, the above map is their expected course of action.

If we keep 99 where it is, that dominates the center and forces them to go far left or far right to avoid our guns. It makes them cede the ground. As such, I think it wise to move the Graisse brigade to fight them on Dejeuner Ridge.

I think they one coming now will be in battle formation since they're not on a road. They'll arrive next turn. A BEF brigade is due in 3 hours (6 turns), and the other reserve will arrive at an unknown time but before the evening.

Okay. Can we get a pic of our disposition in one turn, assuming current orders go through and reinforcements arrive where we expect?

We are in a splendid position to flank through the city of Brioche.

Edit: based on tbe ferocity of the attack, I think we can say quatreprolis is the definitive target. Do we want to send a company or two to our northern objective?

Predicted

Actual

What's interesting here is that A), the western division scattered in their assault, and B), the eastern division fell back.

This highlights a couple things to me. Firstly, they view Quatreprouts (possibly Graisse) as their foremost objective, even willing to spread themselves out and take immense casualties for it. I speculate that this means they have a similar condition as ours - get the end point, enemy main force moves in. Secondly, they view La Cote as an accidental engagement, and aren't committed to it. So we have to examine where the other group is going. Here is what I expect for them to do.

If we treat St Croissant as our priority, we'll need to recommit the eastern brigades. This proposes they gather in the forest, and then advance supported by the entrenched artillery.

Meanwhile, our new brigade has two options. The first is to play aggressive and rush the final objective. This assumes that the forces in contact can hold Dejeuner long enough for the BEF to arrive. The second is more conservative, and commits the brigade to Dejeuner so we have a few more rounds to soak until BEF arrives. Practically speaking, the BEF should be enough to mop up the map.

edit: After chatting with the war room, holding the west green division in their trenches lets their arty control Brioche, which works pretty well. Discussing what to do with the troops advancing on Dejuener.

rough outline of our fires:

As you can see, their avenue of approach is right between our guns.

We now have a cunning plan:

97th charges towards Quatrepolis, killing anyone in the way! :D

Expected

Actual

Our troops fell back in good order from Dejuener, and our reinforcements are heading west nicely. Points of interest:
They've fortified Pastuer Ridge, although I'm not sure if that's from the previous round or if they are staying put. Id like to get a potential map on how far they could have moved if they left the trenches last round. Practically speaking, they seem to be forming a wall against our wall.

... which is funny because we've already left :v:

Its clear, though, that they are treating Quatrepolis as their Win condition, no matter the losses. They are advancing without regard to formation, command radius, support, or morale checks, so its safe to say that's where they are going.

Practically speaking, then, this is the primary map to be considering.

So, the enemy is on the hill overlooking the objective, and night is about to fall. What do they do?

Option 1. Entrench in place. They are out of the range of our guns, and they expect a night attack.

Option 2: Night movement followed by consolidation. They move away from us, and set up for a dawn attack.

Option 3: Night zerg-rush. High casualties, very aggressive, no thought for coordination or safety.

How do we determine which one we are facing, and what is our response?

The way they've been moving the arty up looks like they expect to be advancing under cover of the artillery fire, and they've been pushing hard. I'd expect a hard rush to try and get through before we can react. They have 6 turns to do so. Six turns ago we had men on La Oeuf.

So, lets say their orders are
A) Arty get deployed to the elevated terrain
B) infantry advances on the city with covering fire

:siren: Do we we think they will advance at night? :siren:

They have sight on the enemy now, right? So their orders could be to bayonet charge towards the bois de bacon; the guns on the north side of the ridge will not be able to fire until 3 turns out, so hopefully the BEF lads can be in melee with the surviving rifle companies before then.
