COACHS SPORT BAR posted:I bought an i7 920 in late 2008, bumped it up slightly to 3.2 ghz, and rocked it in a gaming machine until like... late 2015. Even then I had to seriously consider whether a cpu upgrade was worthwhile. Justified it to my nerd brain by going for one of intel's 6-core offerings. the only reason i got more than one pc in the last 5 years is that i live in two places for about half the year and can't be bothered to ship a desktop pc around. both pcs will get a new gpu at some point down the line but unless something breaks there's no point upgrading the cpu, and if i really need to throw cpu power around i can just buy a bargain basement 2x8 core sandy bridge xeon workstation
