Nvidia drivers have a weird default where they don't let dark areas get too dark if using hardware rgb -> yuv conversion. It's dumb and bad but you can perma-disable it in one click

I bought an i7 920 in late 2008, bumped it up slightly to 3.2 ghz, and rocked it in a gaming machine until like... late 2015. Even then I had to seriously consider whether a cpu upgrade was worthwhile. Justified it to my nerd brain by going for one of intel's 6-core offerings.

That 920 is now in my living room, hooked up to my tv and used to play fairly current games regularly. I don't think I've ever made a more worthwhile purchase in my life
