Ah, well, that makes sense anyway. But Dawson's Creek pulled the same move in its first season and wrote the same character out in a similar fashion. RAS lists Dawson's Creek as a key influence, so I figured two and two...

Not much of a thing, because much to the producers' surprise people weren't down with a child predator storyline right out of the gate. But in episode 3 Betty and Veronica set a honeypot trap in a hot tub for the captain of the football team, and Betty puts on a black bob wig and sultry lingerie.

It's a good show.

Just to be clear by "good" I meant "loving hilarious and would have been funnier if they had kept her as old lady Grundy"

This show really makes a competition out of finding the worst parent. In this episode Hal Cooper edges ahead again.

"Ever since I forced you to have one, you were way to emotional and touchy about that subject, so I didn't want to inform you about the abortion. She has Blossom blood in her body. It needs to be purged! The Maple wars must not cease until the earth is cleansed of that plague!"

That guy managed to make Alice look comparatively sympathetic. I actually feel bad for her now, she only married into this insanity and might have been a normal person at some early point.

Greendale was name dropped this episode so they might go in that direction. Ever so slowly Greendale and it's inhabitants come into focus.

Right now Cheryl's at the point where if she and Archie are ever in the same room together again she is going to Jodi Arias the gently caress out of him.

And that is a sentence I wrote about an Archie TV show in 2017.

This show is... A Lot. It's absurd, over-the-top melodramatic, utterly insane, and also weirdly beautiful. Seriously, hats off to the cinematographer or whoever is in charge of making the pretty pictures because the pictures are, indeed, very pretty. I'm happy that Archie finally got to participate in the main plot! Even if it's just him being groomed as future Blossom breeding stock.

Next week looks like it's going to be even more insane.

Just like how comic book Veronica is basically two different people and they've chosen to run with "unconditional super-friend" as her main characterization while shunting "petty, vain, and rich" into her backstory

She's always been a rich bitch with a heart of gold, but I feel like pushing her more shallow and conceited side to the back burner was the best choice. If only to write around making it believable for her to be best friends with Betty and co, since in the comics they have the excuse of all growing up together.

Hey, I'm from Brooklyn. I'm going to call myself Mr. Friendly.

She didn't grow up with the rest of them in the comics though. In both the classic comics and he reboot she's introduced as the new girl. I don't even think they've bothered making her friend with Betty in the reboot. This is the first version of them that actually makes sense.

Oh, really? I always assumed in the classics they all grew up together. Granted I only ever read a shitload of the digests as a kid, never anything with real continuity.

But yeah, this version certainly works best at selling her and Betty as best friends, tho it felt like they did a time jump between episodes one and two where V was suddenly hella close with the core gang.

I don't feel that way at all. It seems to me there are a lot of scenes of Veronica basically forcefully interjecting herself into everyone else's business. She's a member of the core gang through force of will.

Until the reboot, there was no consistent continuity in the comics. Depending on what a writer needed, Veronica had always lived in Riverdale, or only moved into town as a teenager, or something else entirely, and nobody retconned anything to explain it away. Zelda games have better continuity than classic Archie.

Man, the cinematography, costumes, and production design on this show are on point. The colors are spectacularly vivid, almost Technicolor in how intense they are. It's the prettiest show on TV since Hannibal ended.

I have to admit, if the Pie Maker accidentally killed Jason, then brought him back to life, and then took him away to make pies and no physical contact, that would be a really great stealth reboot.

"Who killed Jason Blossom" takes a backseat to the major storyline for the rest of the season: Alice Cooper's rise as the new mean girl who terrorizes Riverdale High.
