I've played a good ways into Birthright, but never got around to finishing it. Haven't touched Conquest or Revelations. Looking forward to seeing this, might actually pick this back up again and eventually finish it.Tae posted:Fates NOT about fighting! Welp, Zola. Shame you had to be Obviously Evil, you might have made for an interesting addition to the crew. Then again, given how the game's been written thus far, perhaps it's for the best you left the stage early.

She's a shy, demure feudal Japanese lady archetype character. So she feels like she's being a burden on all the people who do the fighting because she's not actively fighting herself. It just straight up doesn't occur to her that her saving people's lives is going to have a longer lasting impact on the outcome of the war than if she were out there stabbing people to death with a spear like her sister. So since she's convinced that she can't fight, she tries to find other ways to help "ease the burden" that she thinks she's creating.

Endorph posted:i like how hinoka hasn't had a single line this entire finale Hinoka suffers from not being interesting enough to be relevant in cutscenes. Ryoma is the oldest male, ergo he's next in line for the throne and has the responsibility of leading Hoshido's army. Takumi is the youngest male, so he gets to be angsty about his inferiority complex and be important to the plot; also, he has a super cool magic weapon that is relevant to the plot. Azura has Bullshit Magic Cutscene Powers that are relevant to the game's plot. Sakura is your real* little sister and is there to meet the moe fanservice quota and also emote being upset when Corrin gets hurt. Hinoka's defining character trait is... she was really, really desperate to get Corrin back from Nohr. Which happened right at the start of the game, so her character arc is effectively over without you needing to do anything beyond pick "Side with Hoshido". Oh, and her supports also revealed that she's mellowed out a lot from how she was in her youth, when she was much more frantic and passionate about it, so it was actually effectively over before you even started the game.

Counterpoint: the Avatar in the Hoshido route immediately realized, "Hrm, Garon gave me a sword that almost killed me twice, killed my mother and left the nation of my birth vulnerable to attack from his forces that were apparently waiting right on the border for this to happen. Clearly he intends to conquer Hoshido, even if it meant killing me to get things started. I probably shouldn't willingly return there and act like there's nothing wrong with that so I can find out 'why' he did this." The Avatar held the idiot ball in Birthright, too, but was capable of dropping it at least once or twice. W.T. Fits fucked around with this message at 00:17 on Apr 20, 2017 |

chiasaur11 posted:Because the game already has mechanics for Effie getting troubadour because Elise with A+ supports. When there's an explicit mechanic for a character picking up the same class as a friend, giving them mechanically lovely options by default feels much worse. I mean, Awakening had a few points of precedent like Cherche, but for the most part people got classes that were both relevant to them and useful. I forget which of her supports it's mentioned in, but Cherche had Cleric and Troubadour as her reclass options in Awakening because she was in training to be a cleric before she encounter Minerva and realized her destiny of flying around and murdering people with an axe. So there is an actual backstory justification for her having those class options despite being mechanically ill-suited to them.

Someone's going to have to explain to me how this makes Ryoma worse than the Nohr siblings, because I'm not seeing it. Yeah, he's willing to let Elise die if Corrin(e) doesn't return to Hoshido. That's kinda hosed up. But he's also willing to peacefully withdraw his troops and allow Elise to receive the medical aid she needs if Corrin(e) willingly returns, and because of what we saw of him on the Birthright path, we know he's honorable enough that he would stick to his word on that. Meanwhile, Xander, Camilla and Leo have all been demonstrated to be completely fine with murdering the poo poo out of absolutely anyone who gets in the way of them having their precious Corrin(e) all to themselves and will absolutely not compromise on that ever until after you beat the fight out of them, twice in Camilla's case and lethally in Xander's. Also, Leo was straight up perfectly willing to murder Corrin(e) himself before we knocked some friendship into him and he gave us that free mass teleport book. But, no, clearly Ryoma is the rear end in a top hat here because...?

Oh hey, good thing we conveniently have someone around to slaughter innocent civilians and helpless prisoners of war so that our protagonist never has to commit any morally questionable acts! The fact that this still comes as a shock to her after all she's seen since we've started playing is the most frustrating part of it. Conquest Corrine's not sheltered, she's completely disconnected from reality.

I dunno, I don't really feel like Kaden's being a dick for trying to protect his home from intruders. It's a group of armed strangers, one of whom just referred to him as "it," like he's some kind of unintelligent monster and not a person. Even if he escorts them back out the way the came, or helps them make it through to Hoshido, he has no guarantee that they're not just going to come back with a larger group of soldiers later on and slaughter everyone when they're not outnumbered. Better safe than sorry. That said, given what people have said about this map's mechanics, it sounds like the combat scenario designer was more than enough of a dick to make up for it.
