So was the controversy around No Mans Sky directly due to developers over-hyping the game and straight up lying to everyone? I always saw it as more intricate where Sony basically took this teeny tiny indie game that generated a small cult following and blew it way the gently caress out of proportion by making it a 'playstation console exclusive' and multiple live demos with a 40 piece orchestra and tons of exclusive live demos and live events and other crap.

Even before 4-6 months before release I remember thinking "These devs have probably such a bewildered look on their face either because they are humbled at all the money Sony gave them to expand their game into something truly awesome or they are shocked at how they pulled off a 2000s dotcom bust style cash infusion pump and dump in the year 2016 cause this never should of happened."

Sony is definitely partly to blame by taking what was (and really, still is) an Early Access game and turning it into a AAA console exclusive (with accompanying $60 price tag). Sean Murray didn't help things by straight up lying about multiplayer.

Also PC gaming owns cause I can just emulate all the console exclusives later. Consoles won't even emulate their own legacies unless you buy a 20 year old game for $40

Is there any sports games that aren't absolutely infected with ridiculous microtransactions, horrible grinding or lovely forced narratives? The NBA2k series went from best basketball game series to mobile phone levels of poo poo so gradually I almost didn't notice.

I also miss the ridiculous versions of sports games like NBA jam and NBA street, too many of these games take themselves too seriously and try to go too hard on the realism

It really is incredible how badly microsoft choked away the lead they had with the 360. Sony dropped the ball with the PS3. Microsoft could have stolen the ball and dunked it on the entire gaming industry but instead they dribbled it off their foot and faceplanted on the floor.

Stellaris is great except when you need to land armies on planets. The tediousness of building land armies, escorting them to the planet you want to invade, and then babysitting them while they fight is so goddamn dull, especially when late game empires can have like hundreds of planets and you still have to manage your combat fleets around.

I don't have the expansion where you can just blow up planets but I could see myself quickly going overboard with it.
