This actually just happened, and is my Kemono Friends story: *upon completion of episode 3* wife: "So, are you going to continue watching this show?" me: "I don't think so, it's really stupid, just too stupid..." *unconsciously queues episodes 4 through 8 on my watchlist" wife: "uh, then why are you picking up the remaining episodes?" me: "...I HAVE TO KNOW WHAT CAUSED THIS POST-APOCALYPTIC SITUATION AHHH YOUKOSOU JAPARI PARK"

I had a stray thought that Sandstar was a metaphor for nuclear radiation, like if there was an abandoned amusement park near Fukushima or something (there is), then got to wondering about the pictures in the ending, and a few google clicks later it seems some of the locations have been found: Six Flags, New Orleans, Louisiana  =  and  =  Boblo Island Amusement Park, Bois Blanc Island, Ontario  =   Pripyat amusement park, Pripyat, Chernobyl Exclusion Zone  =

That first chase scene sets the entire tone and expectation of the series. I'd argue that without it being exactly like it is, this show may not have taken off as well as it did.
