Was Julius Thomas really that bad in Jax? How much of it was just a product of the team

I'm sure that's part of it, his catch % when targeted went from ~70% his last 2 years in Denver to 57-58% in Jacksonville. But I think it's pretty possible he's just an injury prone tight end that will put up around 500 yards and be a good red zone target for you in a good year.

Still, he's a massive upgrade for Miami even with that isn't he? Haven't they been just godawful at the position for like a decade?

The franchise record for career receiving yards is just over 5k. 2 RBs in the top 10, 3 other guys listed as Left End or Flanker which means they played in the stone ages. And Ditka.

Yeah Jackson's probably the closest recently. I don't believe he's anywhere near the player Jeffery at his best could be but Jeremy Maclin was coming off a 1300 yard year when he went to FA if we're just looking at stats (although that was easily the best year he ever had).

Tyrod Taylor is about as good as it gets if you include young and healthy there recently, although he was completely unproven so might not count for the question.

I swear there was a searchable site for historical free agent signings but I can't find it right now. Spotrac is ok but only goes back a few years.

e: If you want to go way the gently caress back Len Dawson was traded then cut before signing with the Chiefs, but that's another case of him being completely unproven at the time. I'm sure there are plenty of guys like that, especially early on. But an actually highly productive player under 30 with no physical problems I'm drawing a blank on.

It's just "the tone-deaf native american culture-appropriating team that is less racist than the Redskins so we give them a pass, because come on, the Redskins are you loving kidding me?"

They shoulda named the team the Bartles.
And then drafted Blake Bortles

Yeah I know when the Chiefs came, Bartle was elected in the 50s and was out by the middle of the 60s so I think it's fair to call him a 50's dude.

Also the fans blatantly stole the tomahawk chop from the Braves, who in turn stole it from the Seminoles, who in turn appropriated it from the...er, Seminoles. There was absolutely nothing about Native Americans implied with the name originally! Arrowhead Stadium was....It was....named...because... of a nearby road! That's it.

Not surprised by that at all. I could see a team willing to pay $5m and hoping, but then the stuff from his camp was like he was expecting a multi-year deal at $10m+ and you guys know he's 32 right?

Here's the list of 32+ y/o running backs to rush for 1200 yards:

John Riggins '83 - 1347, at 3.59 YPC
Walter Payton '86 - 1333, at 4.15 YPC
John Riggins '84 - 1239 at 3.79 YPC

So 3 times, over 30 years ago, and two of them you wouldn't even really want.

You can add another like 8 guys who did 1000+ yards, but most of those years are definitely not worth $10m.

Also, the successful older backs tended to be good receivers, and Adrian is not much of a receiver.

I suppose on the bright side he hasn't been used a whole lot the last few years, but the most successful guy I can think of like that was Marcus Allen and he never ran for more than 900 yards after he was 32, with 207 being his highest carry year. He did get 46 TDs after that though, which is pretty impressive.

Curtis Martin ran for almost 1700 yards at 31 (a career high even) but then retired after putting up 735 yards in his 32 year old season.
