The Saints were never going to pay Cooks once his contract was up and they haven't had problems finding receivers who can produce in the Brees years. I wish they'd gotten a higher pick than 32, but I'm guessing that there wasn't actually a better offer on the table.

I think people probably look better when they go to the Patriots because they have a better QB throwing to them, and because the patriots run about 7 picks on every play to get dudes open. These guys aren't necessarily hidden gems, they're just guys who fit the role the Pats want them to play but that role may not exist on other teams.

Kickers are cheap to sign and hard to scout, which means sorting through the pile until you find one that sticks is the exact right approach.

Ted Nugent was a good kicker in 2015 and a bad kicker in 2016. That's because the difference between a good NFL kicker and a bad one isn't that great. The fact that they are generally so good makes the bad streaks really stand out. It's definitely nothing like the disparity between the best and worst QBs.

Byrd can be cut after this year as well to save money. The Saints don't really have many big contracts left. Reports are the deal is for 3 million this year, and I'd wager it's a 1 year deal at least in structure. Peterson probably wants a prove it deal since he's not getting any of the offers he seems to want. I still don't like it though, because he's a garbage human.
