I've got a Winsor & Newton Cotman set that I got forever ago and I can't find it on the net now, though they seem to do smaller similar pocket sets now. It's these little squares and I wasn't impressed until I got to try some at a friend's and daaaaamn.
The set was STUPID expensive when I was a young student, but I never even looked at those chalky cheap round bricks again with anything but the haughtiest *snort*

How do you even handle little tiny tubes of 10ml of paint? Do you just dab the brush in or what?

I did a vulture-rider.

The Cotman line isn't even all that good in terms of pigment load. Get yourself some artist-grade watercolor tubes and make your own pans. I have a few plastic travel palettes with artist grade paint squeezed into the compartments. At home I have an enameled butcher's tray and I just squeeze little blobs of paint around the edges. It's OK if they dry, you can re-wet them.

The Acryla Gouache is a bit different. It hardens permanently so I just squeeze out a little bit at a time, either on a plastic palette or on a damp paper towel. Luckily Holbein paints are bizarrely cheap so I don't worry too much about the inevitable waste of paint.

Plz have a crisis more often, this is fantastic. How big is it? That's some impressive edge control.

It's about 6"x9". This is by far the most "technical" watercolor I've ever done in terms of extensive planning, using masking fluid, making sure all my washes were properly graded, etc. I recently picked up some Arches hot press paper and played around with it a little bit last night. Soooooo different. This is Arches cold press 140lb. The behavior of the paint on it is absolute perfection, but the details are limited by the grain. The hot press is like painting on smooth plate bristol board. It lets you get minuscule details, but it doesn't have the same magic as cold press. I've been watching videos by Ira Sluyterman van Langeweyde, I want to be her when I grow up:

Thanks! I did the initial pencil sketch a few days ago, but largely redrew it for the final. Drawing on the illustration board took about an hour or so:

Then I revised the pencil drawing to fix some compositional issues:

Total time on the drawing was probably 2 hours. Then I did a gouache underpainting with a lift-out technique explained here. That took about an hour and a half.

Once that was done, the final color glaze took probably 2 hours, maybe a little more.

Gouache looks like a great tool but I have no idea what I'm doing.

That kekistani fighter is great but makes me :smith:.

Here are some good resources about gouache:

If you can do watercolor, gouache is infinitely easier because you can remove it and rework it after it dries.

Here is a watercolor painting, I touched it up a bit in Procreate:
