I think there's a natural human tendency to wanna categorize everything but the huge irreconcilable differences people apparently have between Souls games never felt relevant to me. They're all like variations on a theme and are mostly the same games, closer than most sequels tend to be to their source material.

Btw if anybody knows how to fix my computer crashing to a black screen every time I exit DS3 please let me know so I can finish it!

You're not getting the full Souls experience if you can't say "this is bullshit" and quickly alt+f4 before the YOU DIED screen comes back up.

I dunno, Life is Strange still fucks me up. And how can anyone forget the trauma of losing Aeris 20 years ago.

I still think about Life is Strange at least once maybe every other day, even though it takes all of 15 hours to complete and I'll likely never touch it again. That and how STUPID it was that Angela Chase ended up with Jordan Catalano at the end of My-So Called Life and how could they cancel that show after only one season!!!

I don't really like any of those unfortunately :(

I really thought MGSV was ruined by its open world, especially. It really didn't need that. It's the game that made me go "maybe open worlds... are bad?????" Which was also wrong, but I just wasn't into it. MGS4 and V both have better controls than any other MGS game though, so I gotta give them credit for making controlling Snake feel really great. I bet if I came into MGSV not expecting a good final MGS story and just hosed around with stealth I'd have an okay time, but I really want more than that from an MGS game.

I think that open worlds are unfortunately here to stay because they A) fulfill many people's unreasonable demands that every single new AAA release is some 80-hour content monstrosity and B) copy-pasting a bunch of identikit busywork for players to do is actually one of the easier things to program, instead of focusing on a tightly-wound story or side quests that require additional voicework, writers, scripted events, and unique locations. Just overwhelm the player with map markers into submission.

I vote Nier then Horizon if you plan on doing both because I did the opposite and Nier is kind of hard to look at now.

Sometimes the act of revelation itself is so important to the overall experience that it does damage the work as a whole to know what's coming in advance. This is so obvious for certain stories that I don't know how anyone could disagree. If you're not particularly invested in the story however, spoilers likely aren't going to mean as much to you.

Steam is a pretty well designed program to manage my games and it's a standard which is nice but it's been both of those things for about a decade. I have nothing nice to say about Valve anymore. They're like bioware in that they haven't been doing anything interesting in like a decade but for some reason people still expect them to deliver.

Valve has wisely realized that the worst thing a game developer can do in the eyes of the public is to actually release a game.

Almost all games run better on the Pro with boost mode now but it's not a uniform upgrade across the board, and the changes are subtle enough that unless you're gaming on a 4k display you could better put that money into a baller video card for your PC.

Every other publisher out there is probably more than a little jealous that they have to actually keep making games to stay in business. In a more perfect world each company would have its own widespread digital distribution service, greenlighting whatever shovelware people threw at it, creating nothing.

Despite playing a lot of JRPGs as a kid I never really got into anime and in fact did not make any connection between them until basically adulthood.
