Nice reminder that Bayer was a subsidy of IG Farben, the German company that made all the gas for concentration camps in WW2. I believe they split off and really ran hard to remove the association after the war.

Yes, Bayer was part of IG Farben, but the subsidiary that made Zyklon B was Degesch.
Fun fact #1: They're still around.
Fun fact #2: Zyklon B was produced and sold as recently as 2001 (under the name "Cyanosil").
Fun fact #3: IG Farben itself was not liquidated until 2012.

It is sort of interesting that they dealt with a stream on a steep incline as a series of grassy flat terraces rather than a solid concrete U-shape. When the water level is low you can easily cross on foot. Not really funny, but we don't have a vaguely interesting pictures thread.

You'll find the same kind of thing in places in the Alps. It means that the stream is not always that small and harmless.

Please don’t actually make caramel this way. There’s a good chance you’ll end up with hot metal shards and molten caramel embedded in your face. If you think that risk is worth being too lazy to stir the milk, then yes, it does work. Unless it explodes and makes a mess worse than a real pressure cooker explosion. In that case, it works to make content for this thread.

Also there's a good chance you can just buy the caramelised stuff, if there's a supermarket near you selling Russian (varyonka) or South American (dulce de leche) specialties. It might even be right next to the condensed milk.
