Lived with a guy who made a homemade still out of a big copper pot, but he used lead solder for the joints instead of silver (saving a few dollars on silver after spending like $100 on the copper pot and tubing) so I didn't drink any of the shine. It was dyed blue because he filtered it with aquarium activated carbon. He works at Google now.

Just remember: credit card fraud statute of limitations is 3 years so if when you do it just don't talk about it publicly for a while

A lot of engineering professors just don't know how to write an exam. I had a hydrology final with a question that required a series of like 30 iterative calculations to solve (we solved it with excel in class so nobody expected to see it on the exam, there were audible sighs and a few 'fuuuuuck's when the test started). I tried the first iteration and it took me over a minute, so I pulled out all my TI-83+ programming skills and wrote a program during the exam to automate the most time consuming parts and save the variables so I could do the next iteration in a few seconds. Pretty sure I'm the only one who finished.

Some professors will straight up say that they aim for a 50% average so they can make a nice curve out of it, but I've had averages in the 30s

I just...some of these people build infrastructure. :ohdear:

Speaking of lovely exams and infrastructure, the Professional Engineering licensing exam used to be open book - which makes a lot of sense cause it's insane to imagine a scenario where someone is engineering off the dome - but now it's closed book and all on a computer so that's kinda what they're testing for. You still get one general engineering reference ebook to use during the exam, but when I took the paper test I had that same book and dozens of others to use and the process of studying and indexing and learning how to find solutions quickly was more valuable than just memorizing where in the reference book the equation is that you need.

Don't think I murdered anyone but I was considering it after I got poo poo for "having mashed potatoes everywhere in the kitchen" well yeah I'm hosting and cooking the turkey, potatoes, mac and cheese and gravy. Kitchen's gonna be a mess (and it's my drat kitchen so what do you care), if ya don't like it there's the door.

This may be the only actually good anti-smoking ad to come out of the mid-2000s.

That has to be the only effectual "Truth" commercial ever made. I swear all the rest like when they did flash-mob style "die-ins" or whatever just made people so annoyed at the concept of anti-tobacco campaigns that they discounted any message from the ad.

Same for Requiem, also same for Brazil for me. Terribly depressing picture of an authoritarian bureaucracy on autopilot so hard there isn't a real villain anywhere in the movie, just "guys doing their job" like the cops arresting the guy and trying to help him saying "hey, stop resisting, think of your credit rating!"

e: yeah...funny picture thread was getting a bit down so i thought something both funny and heartwarming would do nice.
