So a few months ago I was bored and started going through HBO Go's online stuff and I stumbled upon an HBO film from 1993 called "And the band played on."

It's plot-tag intrigued me: "A young scientist attempts to raise awareness about a rising plague but is stymied by career-minded officials." I thought it was going to be a science-fiction thriller like Outbreak but it just turned out to about the rise of the HIV virus from a scientific perspective in a drama-procedural fashion.

It has all sorts of actors, with the main scientist being played by Mathew Modine. This was an "important" production so they got all sorts of actors for the minor roles like Alan Alda and Richard Gere.

Well I didn't get to watch sci-fi movie about a virus but I did get to learn about the rise of the HIV virus and AIDS and was gripped the whole time.

I give this movie ***.5/****

My favorite scene from this movie was when Mathew Modine realized that "something is gobbling up the T-cells" after watching his friend play Pac-Man:

People in the first world sure are all consumed with a plight that is only really destroying the third world.

You might as well become obsessed with not finding suitable drinking water. And Don't say "Well Detroit" because people in Africa would gladly drink that poo poo.

Nothing in Jurassic World is natural, we have always filled gaps in the genome with the DNA of other animals. And if the genetic code was pure, many of them would look quite different. But you didn't ask for reality, you asked for more teeth.

The T.Hanks AIDS movie is better. We watched it in school and there is this part where these lawyer dudes you're supposed to hate are telling gay jokes in the sauna. They tell this joke that's supposed to be terrible: "How does a f** fake an orgasm? Dumps a cup of yogurt on your back." but the concept of naked dudes in a sauna joking around about gay stuff was hilarious.

I got held after school because I lolled too hard at the whole scene.

Philadelphia, it's a good movie.

also, Philadelphia features the Goodbye Horses lady singing Heaven by Talking Heads, automatically putting it head and shoulders above all other AIDSfilm
