iPod sales went up 929% on eBay after the release of Baby Driver.

Apple is a bunch of damned fools if they don't cash in on this nostalgia and release a limited edition Baby Driver iPod or some poo poo.

this was one of my favorite things to point out to people who were older than me: iPods have been around so long that an adult main character in a movie had a flashback to childhood where he was listening to an iPod.

I'm very keen to see this. I got to interview Debbie Evans, stunt driver extraordinaire, and she said this is the film who's stuntwork really impressed her, doing things she's never seen before, and she's been doing it since the 70s. Does it have the usual Edgar Wright thing of whimsical humour mixed with shocking violence?

I've seen GiTS 95 a couple of times and the remake/live action version once. Both are more boring than Baby Driver, but I was still bored by Baby Driver a lot.

I think the story was dull and the characters (excluding Jamie Foxx) were uninteresting. I'm a huge fan of Hot Fuzz but this just felt like the sort of movie Hot Fuzz was parodying.

Having a main character that mainly just reacts and gawks at stuff is so frustrating to me. The guy's just slack-jawed and static while crazy stuff goes on around him. The female lead was basically a non-character (aside from the Oedipus stuff which isn't addressed at all) and the bad guys, despite hiring great actors were pretty weak. Jon Hamm's backstory being exposited by Foxx could've been a cool sequence, but instead it's just told instead of shown.

The action/car-chase stuff was a huge letdown and wasn't nearly as kinetic or dynamic as I'd expected from Edgar Wright. He made a quiet English town look more exciting than Atlanta is in this. The music was lame old man dad band poo poo. Sorry if it's classic rock / funk / whatever but I found it grating and obnoxious.

I think the movie's a dud, sorry everyone.

I dont mind that anyone disliked baby driver, its a cool movie that i enjoyed that worked for a date night with the wife. I'll probably never watch it again.

I just mentioned ghost in the shell (2017 version) because its the single most boring cinematic experience I have ever had and is my barometer for how insultingly boring a movie can get.

Humor starts fairly whimsical but gets less so as the movie goes along. Lots of visual humor as well; several jokes I didn't catch until second viewing. Violence is still pretty shocking but slightly more grounded and has more weight to it. The general theme of the movie is "the fantasy of being a getaway driver vs the reality of being a criminal" where the first slowly gives way to the second, so it gets less funny as the tension mounts, but there are still a couple great jokes even at the end.

Until recently I was still using a 5th generation iPod video when I'd go running. My girlfriend's 9 year old nephew asked me why it looked so weird and I realized with horror that it was older than he was.

Success!

Saw this again with my BF (in one of those theaters with the fancy recliners) and even though I knew what was coming, I still busted up at the Michael Myers Halloween mask gag, and got a little emotional at the 'leaving Joseph at the assisted living facility' bit.

One thing I didn't catch the first time around was Griff(?) (Jon Bernthal's character at the beginning) mentioning 'if you don't see me again I'm probably dead' and never showing up again after that.

And since I'm one of those dorks that likes to read IMDb trivia about a film after seeing it, I felt a little :downs: for not making the connection that Baby's multiple sunglasses/iPods were a collection of what he'd taken from cars he'd boosted over the years.

I loved everything happening in time with the music except for Jon Hamm's big shootout with police and Baby. For whatever reason it seemed uncharacteristic for them to shoot in threes then leave a gap just to line up with the beats.

Still a cool scene but didn’t quite feel on point with that character.

I hadn't even heard of this movie when I went to go see it. Our internet was out for a few days and my boyfriend and I were bored so we just showed up at the theater hoping something good would be playing. There was absolutely nothing we were interested in. After staring at the kiosk for like 15 minutes I picked Baby Driver because Jon Bernthal and I really enjoyed it. All of the car chase scenes were fun to watch and I liked the overall story.

I assumed that it was just Baby's weird perspective of things. He processes stuff through music. John Hamm isn't "really" shooting in time to the music, it's just how Baby's picking it up. Similarly, the streets aren't really covered in random snippets of lyrics to whatever he's listening to, that's just how he sees stuff. He's probably really staring at a snow globe the entire time, while Jamie Foxx laments how he doesn't understand this autism stuff.

It could be either, really. The movie does a pretty great job of keeping with Baby's pov though. I don't think it's a dream sequence or wanting, but we definitely spend the movie in Baby's head. We literally hear what he hears, right down to which ears we hear it in. There's only one or two very brief interstitial scenes that take place outside of his perspective.

Doc's nickname is Doc because he is actually a doctor, most probably am Otorhinolaryngologist (Ear-Nose-Throat specialist), who uses his patients to obtain information and contacts.
In at least two of the heists, insider information came from people with ear or nose problems, and some of the criminals have nose problems (obviously, NoNose, but probably cocaine-huffing Buddy and Darling as well) and it's possible that this his how Baby initially appeared on his radar. Doc is the only person in the movie I recall using the word "tinnitus', when explaining Baby's deal during heirs planning - even Baby himself describes it as "Uh, a hearing thing".

Males sense, but it doesn't line up with stuff that Wright has said in interviews. Wright's backstory for Doc is that he's in the garment industry; he has a legit day job that he always needs to get back to, which is why he never takes off his coat, and the crime HQ everybody meets in is an old textile mill that Doc still owns. You can see the old sewing equipment scattered everywhere.

Maybe just a coincidence, but while listening to the soundtrack I noticed something: in "Know How" by Young MC, there is a line that goes "It's no hocus-pocus, I'll just get you into focus". Another song on the album is "Hocus Pocus" by a band called "Focus." I was looking into "Know How" for this post and found out that it samples a song called "Apache" by the Incredible Bongo Band, who have a song on here named "Bongolia".

Also this video of a live performance of "Hocus Pocus" is wild as hell.

Movie's number 1 on iTunes right now. Oh, yeah, you can download it now by the way. :toot:

iTunes version came with a bunch of extras and stuff. My favorite so far is a deleted scene where they get stuck in traffic next to a cop car right before the final heist and spend a couple minutes slowly looking/not-looking at the cops in perfect unison before the cops make Baby take his earbuds out.
