slowbeef, where is "get a real or part-time job" in this list of helpful tips? Like the one you have? Like the one we're all telling DSP in this very thread to find? Your article here is really good, but isn't it a bit irresponsible NOT to tell this target audience about the need for an actual job? The article needs just one line saying "Consider getting a stable part-time job", that's it. It's easy to imagine someone doing all the things you tell them to do in the article and still not make anything close to a profit. And then it's going to be that much harder for them to get a job and get a working income. I'm thinking about people like LABeast who had to move back home with his parents because youtube wasn't cutting it anymore. He has(had?) almost 2 million subscribers. If he can't make it work, what chance does JohnnySephiroth69 on twitch have?

LA Beast does have a disadvantage in that his content also results in high hospital bills.

That said, if Phil's going to complain this much about YouTube, why the gently caress would he lean on it? Look at TieTuesday; he's preached a similar gospel about how unreliable YouTube is with revenue. But not only is he not a complete cock about it (i.e., keeping his critiques towards the system, not insulting the actual people who work at YouTube, not whining about the site all the drat time), he backs his talk up with action. He scaled back his YouTube uploads and lives primarily off Patreon and Twitch.

He probably doesn't have any skills that aren't directly applicable to sitting on his rear end playing video games all day, so he's not exactly going to try and supplement his income with anything but playing video games. If he doesn't have YouTube ad revenue, Twitch and Patreon may be literally the only income he gets at all.

My fiancee cajoled me into playing it with her. What surprised me is that it's actually a serious dating sim; it's obviously a parody, but from the ads you would think it's just 100% satire from one line to another. There was a lovely game LP thread a year or two ago where someone here did Cry of Fear. Back when it released it was pretty cool because there wasn't a whole lot else like it on the market, but in retrospect it's awful. Most of the scares are just really loud jump scares and it's got some godawful level design, like that train escape that's nearly impossible to beat if you're not great at FPS platforming and know the route to take.

final destination...3 i believe had the sort of CYOA stuff going on with one of its releases and that was actually generally well received by the people who could access it. naturally, very few people could because the technology was weird, proprietary, and expensive. smart TV technology is now in a lot of homes and could be adapted to the fairly simplistic controls in most telltale games. the psuedo QTEs would have to be redone i think but that's a solvable problem. menu navigation arrows and an enter key is all we need.

Final Destination 3 actually didn't require any special technology, as I had that DVD. It was just a version of the movie where it would let you use the regular menu interface to make certain choices, giving you alternate scenes.

The goal of people on the LP subreddit is to become the next PewDiePie, Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, etc. They want to become famous and rich by playing video games because it means they don’t have to work a real job. If I were playing the game, I probably would have stopped at that point, but if anyone can guide me through it it's these two.

Metal Gear Solid is and has always been a weird game made by weird people. It tries to tackle serious subject matter and have movie-quality drama mixed with wacky slapstick shenanigans. Absolutely none of it should work together, but it does based on the solid gameplay and the sheer bizarre hilarity of trying to figure out where poo poo's going to go next. Will it be a monologue about nuclear war and the horrors of being a child soldier? Will it be a human slingshot taking down a helicopter? Will it be a torture sequence? Who knows!

Unfortunately, there wasn't really anyone putting the brakes on Kojima at certain points.

Nerd Cubed did seriously go on hiatus two or three times because of burnout. Especially as YouTube changes its algorithms, it's becoming harder and harder for anyone but the most famous channels to make good money with it. The schedule for someone without expensive sponsorships is more like 12+ hour days every single day without a break recording and editing content, and even then you'll likely have to supplement it with outside work, merchandise, or publishing things like books and your own games that you can sell. YouTube will even start lowering the number of people your channel reaches if you don't put out a constant stream of content, so there's no choice but to keep producing at maximum capacity 24/7 until you collapse.
