Late reply but a seizure can last 8 minutes; any seizure lasting longer than five minutes is called status epilepticus and it often occurs in people with frequent seizures because enough prior seizure history has reduced your seizure threshold so much that once your brain starts that process, it can't bring it under control. It's really dangerous, though, and has a poor prognosis. Once you've had a seizure, though, there isn't usually evidence that you had one, much less how long it lasted. Most doctors I know would just take the patient's word for it; accusing the patient of being wrong and not intervening appropriately is a huge liability issue. The most common cause of seizures of this magnitude are physical problems in the brain (stroke, tumor, haemorrhage, infection) rather than epilepsy.
