The Lord Bude posted:Ages ago. Just before the last expansion came out I think. Huh, I could've sworn it hasn't been that long since I last fought them and they were doing the shadowy fart cloud thing. Now they just do the basic sleep->nightmare thing and teleport when hit. Oh well!

The Lord Bude posted:Whips and (to a lesser extent) polearms help against Alps because you don’t have to move as much to attack them. Just chiming in that this works wonders for Necrosavants as well, whips in particular. Arrange your guys in a blob and give whips to the guys in the middle. They definitely did get hit by the buff to Nine Lives since it clears bleeding now, but the range is still very useful for giving the fuckers a harder time. Whips really are useful as hell in a lot of cases. Nordick fucked around with this message at 17:19 on Aug 15, 2020 |

I think it's very very cool that notable video game person and all around cool dude Josh Sawyer, a.k.a. SA forums user Ropekid, gives Battle Brothers shoutouts on social media and also streams it on Twitch from time to time. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/710830879 Nordick fucked around with this message at 05:44 on Aug 16, 2020 |

Okay so add Lindwurms on the list of things that whips are super useful against. This is so blindingly obvious in hindsight, I have no idea why I didn't think of it before. Tie them up with a few shieldbros, then have a few bros with whips and Overwhelm absolutely tank their accuracy. And once you've plinked their armor off with bows and polearms, those bleeds will add the hell up. gently caress I love whips.

Another general note on whips: A one-eyed guy wearing a heavy -3 vision helmet is not the best candidate for using one, because he can't loving see far enough to use the whip's full range.

I found a famed Goblin bow that has +11% to hit, and 58% armor ignore. The damage is lacking compared to a warbow, but that thing is loving *nasty*.

TheBeardyCleaver posted:How are people building their gladiators? I didn't put much thought into it, but one thing of note is that I made Viper into a greatsword dude, and his unique Glorious Quickness trait stacks with Berserk. This means that he can, in normal terrain, actually move one hex after killing an enemy and still get another swing in. It's pretty nifty.

TheBeardyCleaver posted:Wait so does the then get 3 points back if he gets 3 kills in a swing? If so an Iron lung Viper will be a slaughterfest. Sure does, far as I can tell Glorious Quickness is 1 AP refunded per kill, period. So assuming he's not too fatigued, he can: Step up to a bunch of enemies -> kill three with a swing -> step up to another bunch of enemies -> do another attack. I actually did that earlier today, carved through six enemies in a single turn. I've never seen as many white flags pop up at once before. (it was a fight against like 28 indebted, complete loving bloodbath) Fatigue is certainly an issue, Sword Mastery is an absolute must and a famed sword that builds less fatigue per attack certainly helps too.

You wanna know what's loving terrifying? A Fallen Hero Champion with a famed greataxe getting buffed by a necromancer. Especially when your whip dudes are all tied up by zombies and geists and poo poo. I've been bowling over most everything I come across, but that fight was a loving nightmare. I settled with losing one of my OG gladiator bros because I couldn't loving bear to retry the battle anymore.

I'm really digging it so far, thanks for the very helpful OP. Is there a mod scene at all? It seems like it would be the perfect base for a lot of interesting mods I haven't really looked into it, but there is a fair amount of various mods on the Nexus. Also, some stuff in the OP might be outdated at this point, so if you come across anything that seems to work differently, or any of the advice turns out to be bogus, let me know.

You were a bit hasty to try get him killed tbh, brain damage is like basically a non-issue. Hell, it can even be beneficial if the bro had decent resolve to begin with, since the resolve bonus will make them good sergeant/bannerman material.

Fat Samurai posted:How do you decide where to buy and sell? I usually carry a normal shield around and sell whenever it's priced at 16 or above, and have some reference buying prices (i.e. tools below 250), but I'm wondering whether I should be doing things differently. Personally I'm a little bit stricter with selling, like I usually sell at 18% or above, and I only really stock up on tools if they're closer to 200 than 250. But this is completely arbitrary based on my gut feeling, not based on any kind of optimised calculations or anything like that. For armor my reference is usually mail hauberks. If they're closer to 1k than 1.5k, I might nab some armor.
