It's a really neat psychological thing honestly. The next big one is PFOS, with some person up by Oakey complaining that it's causing a whole bunch of things which are probably psychogenic. The Dupont guys are still fine and they are the big canary-in-the-mine for us really, as soon as they croak then we can worry. Also never mind that there's loving PFOS everywhere because its in a lot of non-stick/hydrophobic coatings, so I'm not completely convinced. Thankfully that PFOS has a half-life of about 10 years or so, so the damage will be fairly short-lived (if at all).

Rowan Dean posted:The world of aviation was rocked to its core this week following an alarming incident in which an elderly male passenger was hauled out of his seat, beaten, dragged down the aisle and turfed off a plane by airline security guards. The incident took place on a crowded Quaintass flight out of Sydney and was filmed by terrified passengers who watched as the screaming man was left bloodied and bruised. "We had no choice," explained the CEO of the airline, Mr Alan Joystick. "The plane was fully booked with a typical diverse and gender inclusive crowd from inner-Sydney when we realised we needed an extra seat for a transgender member of the cabin crew called Raylene. Naturally, we looked around to see who was the least diverse passenger on board and we immediately spotted this 70-year-old doctor who wasn't wearing his designer Gay Marriage "Acceptance" ring, with the little gap in it symbolising the gap in gender equality in Australia, which we had so generously handed out with the boarding passes at Check-In. Somehow he'd slipped on board without slipping it onto his finger. Obviously, we couldn't expect LGBTIQ passengers to tolerate such a blatant display of intolerance, homophobia, and transphobia on the same flight as themselves."

Well I mean if you don't want to be called a nazi apologist, I guess don't support a guy who at best has been complicit in allowing anti-semitism to have a platform around his politics. This isn't some bizarro idea, anti-semitism is unfortunately alive within left-wing circles (looking at your, SAlt), so youwill get some pushback if you start spouting poo poo views

AgentF posted:Is this actually the case? What does anti-semitism have to do with leftism? I thought the socialist ideal was to move past racism and focus on the class war. I think it's pretty long but there's been some traditional distrust of Jews coming from (before?) the time of the Russian Civil War???? Usually the most recent ones I see around are the super pro-Palestine ones which sucks because stopping the Palestinian genocide is really good and important but IDK if we can also call for Israeli genocide without it basically coming off as wanting to murder the jews again. You've hit the nail on the head WRT "the socialist ideal", IMHO. It's not like the massive problem gripping the (actual) left generally, but it's still something to reflect on. NTRabbit posted:Is it antisemitism or antizionism? thatbastardken posted:Yeah sure but basically all the criticism I've seen of Corbyn on that score is really being pushed by his factional enemies or radical Zionists and seems super suss. These are actually always super-good points to consider and I think everyone who considers themselves left leaning or socialist should consider how they feel about the Palestine vs. Israel thing. I think that you can be against what Israel is doing without being anti-semitic (I'm very against what Israel is doing), but it can bleed over a fair bit so I think it's always a balancing act.
