NPR Journalizard posted:I believe you are wrong, but cbfed arguing with you. Religion infests, perverts, and attempts to dominate culture in order to propagate, because the greater the number of followers, the greater the power held by those in charge, and the acquisition and retention of power over others is all religion has ever been about. It's really nice to say that the full coverings are a cultural choice, and the religion itself doesn't dictate which one is right - but the religion does dictate one is necessary, various leaders of sects within that religion dictate specific ones within the areas they control, and within those areas it's often not possible to not join, or leave, that religion without it being a crime, because they control the culture, and by extension the people, and the government. Also, when is the last time they held a general election for the post of Ayatollah? or Grand Mufti? or Pope? or Dalai Llama? NTRabbit fucked around with this message at 09:08 on Apr 25, 2017 |

Frogfingers posted:How the gently caress did you manage to get so woke you horseshoed yourself and became Jaqui Lambie? Jaqui Lambie was half right in that particular argument - she was right that Islam was neither feminist nor democratic, but incredibly wrong that Sharia law is any kind of chance of happening here. Also, she didn't make the next step, which is to point out that every religion is misogynist and antidemocratic, because that would mean realising just how perverted "Christian" Australia actually is.

You can take a position on something, and support peoples protests of it, but also have the knowledge of that sometimes people on your side are assholes and actively both hurting the cause and the visceral defending of which paints the entire concept with the same brush. Party of protest not party of government.

I think shouting that at an Anzac day ceremony is a pretty lovely thing to do, because the war vets I know who go to those find them a pretty difficult and emotional experience. I also don't think that you should be able to be arrested for shouting something like "stop the war" at a moment of silence at an Anzac day ceremony...

Ahh I'll have to ensure I politely ask (in an appropriate tone of course) if I can counter-protest an anti-abortion rally in the future. I don't want to be offensive or trigger anyone

In this case you'd be protesting an abortion is wrong rally with your anti abortion rally. It's weird.
