Also another Canucks d-man has gone to Russia: https://twitter.com/khl_eng/status/855035088148549632 Larsen sucks so it's no big loss, but the timing with Tryamkin also gone is funny. They should pick up a good Canadian boy like Kris Russell. He'll never abandon them for Russia!

You seem to be forgetting that Patrick Roy won in 2014 and Bob Hartley won in 2015 despite neither of them being good coaches, rather their teams just getting really lucky and landing in a playoff spot.

El Gallinero Gros posted:Apparently Calgary is hot to trot for Bishop, which I am not pleased about I don't know why you wouldn't be pleased. Bishop is a good goalie, he had an off year this season but he still was better than either of Elliott or Johnson. Aside from Matt Murray being force traded, he's arguably the best goalie option out there. Personally, I'm hoping Fleury gets traded to Calgary for maximum hilarity every game. Credit where credit is due, I thought the Leafs wouldn't do well against the Caps, but they definitely held their own against them. All games were one goal games, 5/6 OT games. They looked really good for stretches, too. The future's bright for you, LAS. Enjoy it.

I'm guessing if Bergevin was to get fired Julien Brisebois (Tampa's AGM) would be the popular choice to replace him, which seems like it'd be an improvement. Of course, there's also the comedy option of Patrick Roy.

El Gallinero Gros posted:Would it behoove the Avalanche then to trade down if they don't pick #1 or#2 (unlikely as that is)? Actually, they're more likely to pick 4th overall than 1st, 2nd or 3rd overall. Even if the Avs don't end up with a top 2 pick, I doubt they will move their pick. Even with this being a projected bad draft, generally teams who pick in the top 5 are not going to move their top 5 pick.

A couple of pages back, but:Yaya posted:General consensus from what I've seen is that Eberle's getting shipped out of Edmonton at some point this offseason. Good hockey Twitter man Dimitri Filipovic gives us a chart that shows this is a bad idea. The problem with trading Eberle is that it'll fall into the classic Oilers mistake of trading a guy when his value is at its lowest. As well, given our RW depth and ignoring any player returned, there's nobody who you'd really consider a true top 6 RW in the organization (Slepyshev, Caggiula, Pitlick, Puljujarvi and Kassian), so it'd hurt to give up the only guy who could be considered a top 6 RW. That being said, there's no way the Oilers can keep all 3 of Lucic, Eberle and Nuge on top of Draisaitl and McDavid when they get their new contracts. The cap is going to force at least one of Eberle and Nuge to go (since there's no way they'll be able to, nor will want to, trade Lucic). Nuge, despite producing less than Eberle in the regular season, has been much better defensively and looked like more of a threat during the playoffs, so Eberle's more than likely going to be the odd man out. Wish they had just traded Eberle last off-season while his value was still high. yellowcar posted:Real talk: I bet the Oilers would still be in it if they kept TayTay No. Hall for Larsson will always be a bad trade, but Larsson is Not That Bad and it's impossible to know how the Oilers would have done this season if their defense was: Sekera - Russell Klefbom - Benning Nurse - Gryba Which is Not Very Good.

Starsfan posted:but you bet that Oilers fans are 100% defending that trade on the basis of "they got to the playoffs this year" Nah, a lot of Oilers fans (that I've seen, at least) are defending the trade on the basis of Taylor Hall being a locker room cancer. Why? Because look at the Oilers struggling when he was here! Now look at the Devils struggling this season! He's to blame for both teams problems! Clearly he's taking the locker rooms down with his selfishness, his GoPros and his misspellings of banana!

Honestly, the most beautiful thing about the Ducks losing (aside from the fact that gently caress THE DUCKS THEY ARE OUT gently caress YES) is that this was likely their best shot at the Cup. Like there's no way they would've beat Edmonton this year if it wasn't for the lovely reffing. Oilers are only going to get better, and there's no way they'll be able to get past the Oilers in the years to come, let alone other teams in the league. The Anaheim Ducks are not winning the Stanley Cup.

So will Guy Boucher repeat the exact same thing with Ottawa that he did with Tampa? First he takes them to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final, then proceeds to miss the playoffs the next two years, including a bottom 3 finish in his 3rd year before getting fired.

Pornographic Memory posted:If they got lucky at anything it seems to me the obvious place to look is Tampa Bay and Florida since both those teams could have reasonably been expected to be much better but instead were around the bottom of a weak division, leaving room for the Sens to squeak in. I think that's a very fair assessment. Tampa finished 5th in the Atlantic, 2 points out of a playoff spot (because of ROW) despite the injuries they dealt with throughout the year, and looking through their schedule the only real month they were really bad in was January. And then Florida did a lot worse this year, but as a couple of posters have already said they dealt with their fair share of injuries as well, on top of the whole coaching/management snafu. I strongly doubt Tampa will miss next year, and Florida's a decent candidate to get back in as well.
