Guy Goodbody posted:I read the first issue of that new Doom Patrol. It was really bad. Morrison's Doom Patrol was weird, but it was weird because it was overloaded with Morrison's crazy brain and magic. The new Doom Patrol was weird just for the sake of weird. I would say a lot of Morrison's Doom Patrol was just weird for the sake of being weird, and I even liked most of it.

Lightning Lord posted:Anything that gives Tom Scioli work is absolutely essential. I feel like American Barbarian and Final Frontier are legit good and everything else he's done is bad or "so-bad-it's-good." As much as the so bad it's good stuff is fun, I really want another one like American Barbarian. Edit: I haven't read Godland. I hear that's good?

Rhyno posted:Read them all as some are incredible and some are incredibly bad and YOU GET TO DECIDED WHICH ARE WHICH Even the bad ones are amazing as a self parody of that time period. Assassins is like the most 90s thing ever. And the John Byrne one is him giving voice to his Joseph Campbell fetish as openly as possible. My only complaint is the lack of a continuity editor where like mild variations of the same character appear in six different books as throw aways.

It is the most insane Batman story ever written and possibly an actual 11 issue visual interpretation of one man's mental breakdown. As noted Odyssey beats this out by a country mile. You will constantly check to make sure you're not on drugs somehow.

haitfais posted:IBecause good stories never involve author insertion or wish fulfillment. Wagner, Morrison, Alighieri: all hacks. You guys are so thin skinned. I liked the first Mage series a lot. However the level of transparency involved in mapping yourself the hero of a story can definitely bring a story down. He was skirting the edge but it isn't what made me lose interest in Hero Defined. I just think it lost a lot of the mystery that kind of made the first work so enjoyable.
