The only way it could have been more obvious would have Mike had gone to he vet and said:
"hey I found this tracking device on my car that some bad guys put there, which I realized after seeing generic gas caps for sale at a junkyard, can you get me a tracking device except I'll have the receiver so I can see where the bad guys go? I'm going to trick them into taking it by running the battery down on their tracking device so when they come to replace it, it will actually be my tracking device instead of theirs. Then I'm going to take their replacement tracking device and put it in my front yard, so they'll think I'm still at home, but I'll be tracking them with my tracking device that I had tricked them into taking."
"Ok, what kind of tracking device is it?"
"Well you see, after I found the tracking device, I looked at it under a magnifying glass. On the label it had the model number, but it also said transmitter in big words. the words weren't really big, they just looked that way because I was using a magnifying glass. If I want to trick the bad guys and follow them to their bad guy hideout I need to know what kind of tracking device system they use, so I would like you to buy a tracking device system from you, the man who does illegal things for me for money"
"Ok, also I would like extra money because it is late at night, specifically 3:30am, a time which most people understand to be late at night and I would not prefer to be awake this late at night, I would like to be asleep, as is customary for most people to do at 3:30am, a late at night time"
"Ok here is your extra money for being up late at night and also getting this illegal tracking device system for me. I am not attempting to negotiate this extra rate because I have a lot of money and finding the bad guys is very important to me"
"Thank you for the extra money, now I would like to go because it is late at night"

i love the parallels between chuck and mike's plots. they both start the episode with nothing but a bit of information, and they both hatch plans to give the information to their targets via trojan horse.

I'm honestly more excited to see the show introduce Lalo than in seeing Gus. A so-far unseen cartel bigwig who Jimmy and Nacho pull one over on, leaving Jimmy looking over his shoulder all the way into the BB era? Gimme that storyline, Vince.

francesca appearing in this episode makes it virtually certain that Huell will show up before BCS is done, which is what i'm waiting for

I fully expect the court room to be ridden of any electronic devices to cater to Chuck's illness. Then when Chuck is on the stand and Jimmy is questioning him, and asks him if he feels well since all the electronics were removed. Chuck will say that he is fine. Then Jimmy will reveal that there is a radio, a watch, and a cell phone sitting under Chuck's chair, so how could he possibly feel fine?

i initially thought that chuck's mental wellness would be the pivotal topic of the case, but that's changed now that there's assault charges on the line. there just isn't anyway for him to use chuck's illness to justify his own actions. i think jimmy's defense is going to be a lot weirder than that

maybe he'll take a leaf out of sandpiper's book and start out by trying to bury the trial in paperwork

I know the special prosecutor was described as a hard rear end, but I'm surprised she didn't even suggest doing a plea for the misdemeanors and dropping the felony. Usually prosecutors tend to just want to have some type of win in these low level cases.

im personally curious about whether she's going to end up having a personal reason to go after another lawyer, or if she ends up being mostly an audience surrogate who gets increasingly exasperated at jimmy and chuck's slapfighting

Venuz Patrol

sure, but that's a declaration that A) is something any lawyer would say in that position, and B) establishes no character traits whatsoever for her. i guess it's possible that the writers decided to make her RoboLawyer v1.0 to avoid gumming up the focus on Odenkirk vs. McKeon, but i doubt gilligan and crew would be that negligent for someone who will figure heavily into the next few episodes, or even seasons.

Just to get this straight, Saul's in hiding because Walt was dragging everyone to hell with him? It's been so long since I've seen Breaking Bad but I don't remember the specific reason he disappeared.

i don't actually recall walt doing the walt thing at saul at the end. their parting wasn't exactly amicable, but i think saul's the one who helps set up walt's new hampshire retreat. they both make use of the disappearer at around the same time, since the feds have taped confession from jesse by then

my memory is a bit fuzzy, though. i get to those episodes in my rewatch tonight, so we'll see :toot:

Lydia confirms a few episodes later that she was in the middle of setting up the czech republic meth trade with fring when he got offed, so I assume mike would have been aware and working with her by then.

Davis & Main didn't look ridiculous, they just looked stuffy and boring--but ultimately more professional than what Jimmy was offering them.

I think it's a little more complicated than that. In the first few episodes of season 2 it's established that davis and main is much more liberal than HHM. there's an open office, lot of new-age aesthetic, and they're willing to acquiesce on all of jimmy's weird sign-on requests like the new desk. I think the intention there was to show that even the most relaxed environment for a big-name law firm would be too constraining for Jimmy.

not sandpiper in general, but it's a bit weird that his rant in the bingo parlor was basically the capstone to season 1 and there wasn't any comment on it here. it would have been nice to have a minute or two of him explaining/apologizing to the staff to get his announcer spot back

Mesa Verde was big enough that HHM partners cared about it, so I assume Kim is making enough money off them that she could have hired another attorney to help and hasn't for some bad reason.
one of her major sources of stress is about how she landed the mesa verde case to begin with. guilt/paranoia is probably holding her back, which would also explain why she was so hesitant about hiring a secretary to begin with. at least shes getting along with francessca now

season 2 of both better call saul and breaking bad are bad. it seems like gilligan just isn't that good at connecting the initial premise with the rising action; in both cases he got bogged down in all these little character beats and motivations to get them set up properly for the legitimately great stuff later on, but it's quite boring trying to get there
