Corey Tropp is a near PPG player in the AHL, he's got a lot of talent. Tanner Glass did put up some solid numbers in his last two years in the ECAC, he's not exactly Colton Orr.

I think the Blues would have a lot of trouble with Nashville's speed and transition. Ditto for Anaheim. Nashville looks like the best team in the West right now. This is how a lot of people expected them to play in the regular season. e: I also think the Caps will come back. They've lost two close games and they have another level they can play at. Not sure about San Jose though, I though they'd handle Edmonton's five good players pretty well but they look old and busted. T-Bone fucked around with this message at 15:45 on Apr 18, 2017 |

ThinkTank posted:Yeah, San Jose looks beaten here already and I don't know why. The only consolation I have is that the Ducks have been on fire for the last two months and play the type of game that seems to neutralize players like McDavid. Yeah they look fantastic. They need to find a better solution in net than Andersen (Bishop maybe?), but they're going to be a force. I think as Buffalo gets it together that will be a fun rivalry again. Some dude on my beer league team wanted to bet me $100 that Detroit (we have a bunch of guys from Michigan and I've been giving them a little poo poo about the Red Wings) would make the playoffs next year and I just felt really bad for him. Giving up 117 shots in three game is probably not a long term strategy for success. Jake Allen is having a good series but he's still Jake Allen.

This year so far I'd go: Penguins: MAF - They're giving up 37 shots a game. Yeah they're scoring (eventually) but he has been their best player in most of their wins. Capitals: Oshie - I guess? It feels weird picking anyone. Rangers: McDonagh - Although this could be Lundqvist if he turns it around. Senators: Karlsson - Probably the best player in the playoffs so far. Predators: Rinne - Their D has been really good but I don't think any of them have stood out and he has a .950 Blues: Allen - Pretty easy choice. Oilers: McDavid - Feels like he has a lot more to give but he's been their best player. Ducks: Getzlaf - The best forward in the playoffs so far imo. Maybe the best I've ever seen him play.

Ehhh I guess you could make the case but they're carrying the play more than they've been given credit for. In his two shutouts they gave up a combined 39 shots. Those two huge losses have to count for something. Although McDavid kinda has been underwhelming by his standards so unless you want to give it to Draisaitl I wouldn't protest too loudly.

I posted this in the GD thread but sometime during the season they really started erring on the side of the players on these plays. There's definitely some kind of secret Brian Burke cabal to not call off goals. I've even seem some offsides that sure as hell looked like offsides called on.

The 90s Red Wings were 1-4 against the other great teams from its era (Devils, Avalanche). I'd take the 2001 Avalanche or 2000 Devils over either of their Cup teams.

It seemed like they had the puck for entire games. That's still the best post lockout team.

IIHF refereeing is notoriously bad and the games I watched (mainly the US admittedly) were no different. There were like 3-4 headshots that went completely uncalled and they're absolutely indifferent to interference, even moreso than the NHL.
