Yes, this is a good post.

The fact that total unknown Sanders got so close to beating literal household name Hillary Rodham Clinton proves that there is a huge base out there hungry for this stuff. We know the DNC/Hillary/neoliberal side will resist every step of the way, but we outnumber them.

Also, in this era of crowdfunding, I'm not sure why big party donors need to be catered to any more. Run a GoFundMe to get into local office!

but people are still generally happy with the status quo, even if they raise a rabble here and there. most of the left isn't literally starving yet

Holy poo poo: https://twitter.com/RalstonReports/status/887019075322302466

The violence inherent to the system is being routed towards people in power? Oh dear, I hope this doesn't hurt property values.

Seriously though, the idea of things having reached a point that violence is becoming normalized is terrifying and that the democrats refuse to address this is enraging and depressing. I don't want to live in a society this broken and I don't romanticize the reality of violence as a basis of reform, but I can't delude myself into seeing anything being offered by party leadership as giving any feasible alternative when we're slipping further away from the notion of quality of life of a first world country.

E2:

An obscure independent socialist with no corporate sponsors went the distance in a national primary against a Clinton, who then went on to lose in the general against a notorious conman from reality TV who publicly stated he sleeps with a copy of Mein Kampf in his dresser. The reality TV candidate was mostly voted in by the upper middle class, who the middle class then blamed on the poor, while the GOP attacked open elections. Within a few months of assuming the office, the openly nazi NBC owned character from the Bachelor turned out to be a puppet of the Russian Mafia who immediately destroyed the state department in the most successful campaign of sabotage in history. He was then investigated in a watergate-dwarfing criminal conspiracy potentially bordering on treason. The GOP started physically assaulting reporters and plotted legislation that would kill hundreds of thousands of Americans leading to the poor rising up and attacking congressmen in what may become open class war. The democrats sat in the corner and called everyone racist.

Wow. What a time.

Since I'm going to school for social work and also live in shitville Alabama, I've seen poverty. But the majority of people are ok enough that they won't agitate and the others are too beaten down to.

When I was volunteering around here for the local dems I never heard any of them (the dems) say that they disliked Bernie or thought he was wrong. They just thought that Hillary was more likely to beat trump since she was a solid contender in the political arena already and Bernie was an outsider.

Do you understand this concept of democracy? That things need to get votes? That we can't just wave a magic wand and change things overnight in a way that forever blocks Republicans from changing it back?

My man have you heard of gerrymandering or looked at an electoral map for any state lately? The Republicans have done this to a large extent.

I can understand disliking the hopelessness of it, and agree that encouraging people to ignore them is completely the wrong message. Not enough, though.

tbh unless someone gets up and says "go kill the bourgeoisie today" it won't be enough
