I've been itching for some good X-Men stories what do I need to know/read to get started on Red? I tried Gold and Blue back when they started but bounced off of both pretty hard.

Thanks for the recommendations for All New Wolverine. Crushed through it over the last few days. It's great. Especially Gabby. She's a character that in a less skilled writer's hands I would hate but I love her.

There may be a better thread for this, but why do books get stealth cancelled? Obviously there's any number of reasons a book would be cancelled, but is stealth just a way to try to avoid backlash? Cause it seems like that backfires.

Vaccines now actually kill people. Now we'll see if people love their kids enough to go against conventional wisdom/science and refuse to vaccinate! (E: this is a deliberately bad faith reading but somehow still better than this garbage book deserves)

My favorite thing tangentially related to Austen's X-men run was a Wizards Special about the X-men books running at the time. In it he implies that Nightcrawler has 2 penises. It's so weird/gross that I can't help but laugh at this weird porn writer that's allowed to write X-men for some reason.

For real gently caress that attitude. I'm 35 soon to be 36 and I've only this year became comfortable admitting to myself I'm bisexual and even then I've only come out to one person. Shits complicated.

TesseractMinotaur posted:Hickman's take on Moria X is a pretty direct swipe from Claire North's The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August. With that said, it was a clever way to untangle all the different dystopian future the X-Men have seemed to accumulate. Glad I'm not the only one that caught this.

That FF issue where Reed figures out that Ben is functionally immortal makes me tear up just thinking about it.

Haven't really had an opportunity to really think this through, but it just occured to me that what Xavier is doing flies in the face of Reed's thesis statement at the beginning of New Avengers(and maybe FF, it's been awhile) "Everything dies."

Oh I know, it's one of my favorite run of comics maybe my actual favorite from the big two. I just thought it was interesting that they're starting from very different places, Reed accepting death as inevitable and Charles at least seemingly successfully rejecting death, and what that might mean moving forward.

All this talk of Xavier's Dream seems to ignore the entries in Moira's diary where she details that she's corrupted him/our understanding of the Dream to whatever her plan for survival ultimately entails.

So this Xavier is totally biologically distinct from the Xavier that got killed by his surrogate son. Dead Xavier's brain was then jammed into a distinct clone of a deceased Nazi's brain and used for Nazi stuff, but then temporarily became a good guy/maybe Xavier due to nonsense magic. This Nazi clone Xavier brained Nazi presumably died at some point? I don't think this was the same Skull in pleasant hill but I barely remember that event. From there real Xavier was astral for a while but somehow got his brainsoul jammed into a genetically engineered bioweapon that was designed to kill mutants but rebelled and became 3 guys, well 2 guys and a lady, and then later on sort of kind of became Sephiroth? I lost track of the bioweapon at that point. What happened to Xavier brain Nazi? What happened to Fantomex part 2 and 3? Comics are great.

So work with me here. Jean is being weird. Charles is and has always been a dick. Charles is not an omega telepath but Jean is. Charles contacts Jean very early in life, pretty close to when her X-gene manifests. Charles would, in theory, need access to omega level telepathy to be able to constantly be running backups for all the mutants ever. Is it possible Charles in his dickishness essentially coopted most of Jean's powers to run this scheme, in a manner similar to sealing off part of her powers in the past/other media?
