On that note, this is my first prerelease, any tips?

Try and stick to to two colors, if possible. Even if you have 1-2 amazing bombs in a third color, if you have nothing else in that it's usually better to go for consistency, then to ruin your mana base just for a couple of cards.

Beyond that - just have fun.

This is still going to be infinitely better than their 20 year anniversary, which consisted of WotC telling everyone "Hey, it's 20 years of Magic! To celebrate...why don't you guys go and buy a booster. That's it. gently caress off." and we know literally nothing about this, except it's name.

2-3 at my prerelease today. Opened a really shallow pool of all colors, with just a few bits of removal in each so....5 color control. I actually had a LOT of really narrow games, and the deck was super fun to play.

See...poo poo like this is why the Reserved List just makes no sense to me. No, nevermind how stupid it is, or how it may or may not be killing legacy and vintage and whatever. Nevermind all of that.

At it's core, the Reserved List is Wizards telling "We are making a promise and we're going to uphold it. You can trust our word."...and then they proceed to do one thing after the other to show that their word is not, in fact, worth poo poo. Honestly, if I was someone who was for the reserved list, I'd be kind of angry at this point, since it's obvious these jokers just say stuff for the hell of it, then are more than happy to contradict themselves.

I guess the good thing to come out of this, is that it will stop people from bitching about Standard for at least a short while.

If we're giving subjective opinions of KCW's writing - I really liked your set retrospective (to the point where I've re-read all of them at least three times) and not a single other article you have written since then, and you seem like someone I would genuinely not get along with if I met you in person.

With that said - keep it up with the writing, since the more people who write about Magic and don't work for WotC, the better.

Well, ultimately you just need to decide if you want to play with these cards or not. If you're going to play with them, you can easily just use the lands in commander decks and maybe try and build something in Vintage, or you could even just go way back and find some people who play Old School 93/94 and try that format out.

Otherwise, yeah, I'd suggest just selling them and buying something non-Magic related.

So here's what might be an odd question - do any of you know of any write ups or (even better) videos of rotisserie drafts? I know Shotgun Lotus did their Vintage Rotisserie Drafts a few years ago, and those were super fun to watch. Have other people streamed/filmed such? Googling mostly turns up nothing, or just articles explaining what the format is, so I was wondering if anyone has watched/read write ups of such drafts.

I sure know that when I see a bunch of skinheads have a rally here, they always stop to explain that when the say "stomp the kikes" they don't actually mean it.

My point, if I even have one, is this - Travis Woo is probably a literal crazy person (as in, I think he might have some kind of mental disorder, so it always feels kind of bad to make fun of him), so acting like he started burning crosses and hanging people is kind of pushing it too far.

When people clamor for quotes from literature on cards, I always wonder if those same people actually read that stuff in their spare time.

To be honest - I don't really read much these days, due to lack of free time. However, just because I don't read classical literature year-round doesn't mean I don't want quotes from that on Magic cards. I mean, here's a novel idea - maybe someone will notice the flavour text on a card, see the name of a text and author and go "huh, I wonder what the rest of that is about?" and go google it up, find it somewhere online or, poo poo, maybe even possibly get the actual book. And then you have Magic having done a good thing.

Also, quoting literature also generally guarantees better written flavour text than most of the poo poo we get out of WotC themselves.
