Yeah, but I live in Nottingham, and comparing the Forest and County rivalry to something on the level of Celtic and Rangers is just flat out wrong. There was one fight recently which is the only one I can remember. The worst I ever encountered was Cardiff and Bristol City, where Cardiff fans would wait in the train station for anyone in a red shirt and jump them. poo poo was nuts.

Can't stress this enough, there are tonnes of people in the party hierarchy who now cannot start or advance their planned careers because of the new power of the left, and they are *pissed off*

The glimmer of hope re. the careerists is that, as Mark Blyth put it, they go where the votes go. I've no doubt that there are some die hard neoliberals out there but if social democratic & even socialist policies can be shown to popular and actually win elections that will do a whole lot of good to get the technocrats on board.

The line from liberals in the Labour party is always that "Oh, well New Labour did a lot of good, are you just going to discount that?" The counterpoint being that there is no indication that Labour only won *because* of Blair (a dead donkey with a red rosette could have won in 1997) or that New Labour's methods were the only political option available to fix the NHS etc.
