Greetings, fellow goons, and a happy 4/20 to all. Fittingly, it is on this auspicious date that I am launching my game. It is a highly experimental game, it must be said, but one that has the potential to kickstart the greatest transfer of power in the history of our species and cause a huge amount of folk to go apeshit in the process. That’s gotta be worth a punt, right? It might also do absolutely nothing, but then it costs nothing to play either except for a single minute of your time. The game was born of two questions that came to me one night, months ago. The first question regarded Gamification. A few years back this term was everywhere, though related almost exclusively to employment, and was being hailed as some sort of miraculous future tech. Except, it is evident, the gamification of working life appears to have been a bit of a bust since no-one seems to mention it anymore. Perhaps us peasants realised all too quickly that it was simply a cheap tactic to get us to do more for the same pay, with the only effect being to make some rich bastard even richer, and we therefore refused to play. But could gamification yet succeed in the real world, if applied to a different context? Could it even function as a weapon of sorts? The second question related to the first and regarded how much power a handful of buttons that are very familiar to us all truly had. Using nothing else, could a sufficiently large number of people knowingly exploiting Social Media buttons manifest a revolutionary change in the real world? That is to say, if an interesting enough political movement were generated as one might write up a science fiction worldview, could Facebook and Twitter be utilised to make that narrative widely known and discussed, and would this then lead to the real-world organic genesis of that movement? My hypothesis is that if you pass an idea to a large enough group, someone somewhere will run with it; out of genuine belief, for the amusement of themselves, to cause alarm and offense to others, or out of a simple curiosity to see whether it can actually be achieved. I think these are questions and scenarios worth exploring. I hope you do too. And, it is with that aim that I introduce you to the Dom Party - a movement dedicated to the disempowerment of men - and invite you to play the game. http://www.domparty.org Exioce fucked around with this message at 16:54 on Jun 12, 2017 |

I think I'll let the ad expire then (should happen very shortly), but I'll keep the site up because why not. Coolguye posted:im gonna be charitable and ask for the context of that last question because it feels like im missing it Insanity is not the problem. Donald Trump is POTUS, after all. The problem I think is profile, in that you need a certain level of it in order to carry others with you. Being an online project, you'd probably need a Lowtax level of profile before you could kickstart the process. The context of my last question is that there's an ad on this site that drives people to http://domparty.org and visitor stats seem to indicate it's doing a decent job at that. However, the website doesn't link back to this thread in any way whatsoever. But a fair amount of people find their way here, increasing thread views and the occasional post. To find your way here from the website then is an active investigative process rather than a passive process. Just curious as to why some people don't do what most do and shrug "Yeah, okay, whatever" myDad posted:I don't really get it OP This is... beautiful. I am in your debt, sir.

Being an online project, you'd probably need a Lowtax level of profile before you could kickstart the process. you do not need any 'profile' to get something going on the internet. what you need is: 1) a coherent product/cause 2) a clear idea for a target audience 3) a well thought out way to pique the curiosity of that audience 4) a reliable way to continue engaging them once their curiosity is piqued you do not seem to have any of these things. i have no idea what domparty is supposed to be. it comes off as non-interactive barely hinged screed that i have no cause to care about. you do not seem to have a clear idea for a target audience; there's no words you use anywhere that appeal to any identifiable group of people (except maybe "people who think gamergate is dumb/funny" per the ad). you do not do a good job of piquing curiosity since, as said, you click on the site and the first/only thing you see is incomprehensible screed and there's no direct correlation with anything else you've put pretty much anywhere. you definitely do not have a good way to continue engaging with people as you don't funnel them effectively to any social forum, email collection, etc where you can retain their attention. your poo poo is failing not because you don't have 'profile', it's because your entire plan is a colossal mess. i'm gonna guess your bounce rate is super high if you happen to look at visitor stats because of all this, and because of that you don't actually have good data on what's good. so you are confusing your poisoned web data with data you don't have a clear picture on (views on this thread) and asking unfounded questions. none of this is meant to put you down or whatever, this is just a machine-gun evaluation of what you're doing by someone who has a few inches to talk about it. you're not going to be successful because you're not doing the basic things you need to do to build and retain an audience. definitely let that ad expire but look at yourself and what you're doing before blaming some nebulous internet situation; the problem here is one hundred percent controllable and it is one hundred percent your responsibility to do it.

What's your kickstarting platform called, and how would you present the project to improve its chances of success around those 4 pillars?

well, we don't focus on just kickstarting, we focus on long term sustainable business. the blast-off portion is simply the hardest part that none of our competitors really solve well - even the eponymous kickstarter basically dumps their clients like hot rocks after their campaign period and leaves them in the lurch right when they need help launching the most. our platform is called hanzo, and we're in private beta here. as for your other question we'd honestly have to organize a call and have you explain your overall vision and methodology in your own words, because i'm confused as to what life cycle even makes sense based on what you've got here. but to give half of an idea of how i think, i'd make considerations like: 1) what skills do you and your team have available 2) what does the minimum viable product (MVP) look like 3) what monetary resources do you have available 4) how much time/runway do you have to launch the product given information like that i can start figuring out which platforms make sense to focus which activities on so you're doing the most productive thing at any one time. i really don't have time to take on a full-service client right now but i'm happy to try to impart the most relevant bits if you're committed to your project.

Pham Nuwen posted:*goes up to the dude in the park who's yelling about Jewish mind control beams* "Sir, as a graphic designer, I think your signage could really use a redesign." Which part of the signage did you not like? Or, if if not a question of like or dislike per se, in what ways would you do a redesign in order to generate a greater impact? Impact if, of course, crucial. Is there a particular colour scheme that works better? Perhaps the font is difficult to read?

I think this suffers from being far too conceptual. Going at this from a theoretical standpoint, your pitch reads like you're (consciously or not) trying to implement the Theatre of the Oppressed without giving the audience/actor/player any actual means of experiencing a novel and unique interaction, which is the entire point of TotO: breaking down a normally extant barrier to produce a meaningful sense of presence and involvement. But there's nothing to get invested in here and nothing to explore -- you're just asking them to market for you. It's rather transparent. You sort of made the best case against your own game by pointing out the corporate failure of gamification: you're trying to get people to do precisely what you want without a meaningful reward. That doesn't work well because there's no interactive element and very little content. Much like nonprofit/fundraising social media programs, you're going to need to offer some form of actual reward to hook at least some ambassadors to make your case. Either that or provide something more concrete to get them to speculate on, or generate intrigue through more multimedia approaches. So yeah, I can definitely see where you're coming from and I encourage you to explore and develop this further, but it really does need more to it. For now (if you're still doing this), I'd make more posts on your Facebook page -- with only a single post from March, it looks abandoned. Nobody's gonna go for that.
