So, out of curiosity. I seem to recall that Mages in Shadowrun doesn't fare too well if they leave for outer space. Am I misremembering this or what was up with that?

This seems in character. But it was more of "taking advantage of a sudden change," not "deliberately manipulating the situation to happen."
