If I'm around in SAGoons I'm more than happy to help people grinding games out for Nexus challenges, and I definitely want Poli.Va so count me in for that.

Thanks to the megabundle I now have about 51 or so of the heroes in the game. The only specialists left are the ones I don't have interest in playing (Medivh, TLV, and Probius) and my last remaining Warrior is Cho'Gall. I bought Lucio with gold and have a bunch left for rerolling, and I snagged a rainbow unicorn for Murky to ride into battle so 2.0 has been pretty decent so far.

I like the start of the round slap-fight in middle because its great for getting some easy stacks on level 1 quests that need you to hit heroes. And then if you quickly transition to another lane when the fight quickly winds down you can get some extra exp over the enemy team when they stick around too long in mid.

Everybody charges mid in QM for probably two reasons:

1). They saw some pro players do it once for actual sensible reasons and decided that this is how they should always play regardless of context or circumstance, and:

2). It's quickmatch so nobody really gives a poo poo.

e; it's like how in quickmatch in Overwatch people getting mad because their team slampicks Hanzo and Widowmaker instead of an "effective comp" when you're literally queuing into the Nothing Matters mode that doesn't even track W/L or anything, the actual tryhards are off playing competitive.

Everybody in the game moves like that, sorry. It's a game, and genre, based on an RTS. It is really noticable with regards to the Overwatch characters since 3/4ths of them are some of the fastest characters in Overwatch the FPS which makes it stand out a bit more. Lucio has a bunch of talents that play off his wallriding ability though which increase his speed even more as well as talents which increase his green speed boost aura's effect but focusing on making Lucio super-fast isn't necessarily gonna be that helpful. The one that always fucks with me is that Tracer's recall doesn't heal you until level 20 which means there's an entirely different dynamic to using it in HotS as opposed to Overwatch.

It's specifically Tracer and Lúcio who feel like they're on ice skates, because unlike other heroes, when you attack someone while you're moving, you continue to move towards wherever you ordered your hero to move. This means that unlike Valla or someone where you can deliberately interrupt your move order via attacking (and it is very frequently desirable to do so), you have to interrupt your move order with another move order to prevent yourself from sliding into the enemy team and to your death --- or you just simply click very very close to your hero instead of in the general direction that you want your hero to move into. It's a big adjustment!

Ah yeah, I did forget that detail, you're right. What always messes me up with that isn't so much the regular movement as it is the fact that when you blink with Tracer she continues moving in the direction she was moving before you hit blink, which means if you don't very quickly manually adjust her movement what happens is you blink back to try and get out of someone's way but she immediately begins moving towards them again.

I'm not trying to pick on anyone or anything but like I said, this sort of thing is practically word-for-word how it goes down in Overwatch and I assume most any other team-oriented competitive game you could name. "I was doing [SMART THING ON PAPER] but my team was doing [LESS OPTIMAL THING] so I declined to join them and of course we didn't win, the fault is that my teammates are idiots," and maybe they are but they're the idiots you have to work with. If they want to deathball in mid lane and the other team isn't all spreading out so they can have XP advantage but is meeting your team in their own deathball and you're the one stubbornly staying away from that guaranteeing a 4v5 then you do in fact share some responsibility for what happens.

This is in fact a thing I need to work on myself as prior to level 10 I'll be in games where brawls will suddenly break out over nothing and I need to do a better job of deciding if I should go join in (since we aren't losing soak when everyone is all clustered up) or if I should stay in lane and continue to soak/push. There are times when the answer has gone either way.

I'm wondering exactly the same thing. Ragnaros looks really cool, but Abathur sounded interesting when I watched a bit of this at Blizzcon one year.

Ragnaros seems cool but I don't know if he really plays drastically differently from most heroes. Molten Core is a rad ability but you aren't occupying structures all the time, it's basically like a second heroic ability that he always has on hand with an appropriately long cooldown, otherwise for the most part you're still scrumming it up with the rest of the heroes. I think the best way to describe him would be as a sort of melee caster, you get up close and use your abilities to help you smash people and drop meteors on them. Abathur is also cool and definitely plays differently from most characters but requires a ton of awareness at all times, he's a sort of "high APM" character like the Lost Vikings.

Murky is obviously fun as hell if you haven't played him and he recently got an overhaul that seems to have done him good, Tracer, Lucio, Zarya, and Genji all play very similarly to their Overwatch counterparts, and Varian is a "multiclass" character who chooses between three heroics each of which gives him both an active ability as well as passive adjustments which change what sort of role he fills (more tanky, more like a melee assassin, etc) mid-match.

After experimenting with a number of different warriors I think that to me Johanna is probably the quintessential tank. Like, there are tanks with better initiation abilities (Anub'arak) and there are tanks with better inherent crowd-control (Diablo, Muradin), and I suppose there are even tanks that are more resilient (Chen), but simply in terms of someone who creates an area around themselves and says that if you step into that zone you're gonna have a bad time, it feels like Johanna is the best at simply being this walking impediment to everything the enemy team might want to do.

imo unranked shouldn't have bans and probably allow mirror picks too. The point should be to get two reasonably functional comps, not tryhard draft strategy stuff. I would also suggest drastically lowering the pick timer. You don't need 60 seconds to discuss hero picks in unranked, you find a role that's needed and pick a hero you want to play.

Gonna go back a couple pages to say that what Gustav is suggesting is how I feel like quickmatch should work. No draft, no bans, mirror picks allowed, but you get to see the map in advance and more importantly teams get to maybe see what they're going up against so they can pick accordingly. Give everybody 60 seconds to select a hero and then go. Otherwise quickmatch is always going to have the "this character is unfun" dilemma where a character that's nothing out of the ordinary in a more constructed, competitive format winds up attracting a huge amount of bellyaching and bitching from the people in the loving-around end of the pool, like Valeera. I think it would be more productive for Blizzard to give the people who aren't necessarily interested in ladder climbing the opportunity to make some sort of educated counterpicks (oh, they're going Valeera/Nova, maybe I'll pick a hero with good detection) instead of trying to protect them from themselves with weird panic nerfs that make a character who was in a relatively balanced place suddenly worse without any tradeoff. Especially because there really isn't any end to the well of unfun, even if you nerf a character that's attracted a ton of outcry into the ground people will just find something else to pin their frustrations on.

Sorry, I wasn't really trying to call you out or anything, it just reminded me that the patchnotes for 2.0 literally gave "people found this hero unfun" as the reasoning behing the Valeera nerf and I went from there. And that's entirely valid, not to take away from anyone's frustration (lord knows this game frustrates me sometimes), but I think the better solution to that would be making quickmatch less of a random clusterfuck where you're rolling the dice without even an idea of what map you're going to play on let alone who you're going up against, give people the ability to exercise some semblance of planning or counterpicking even in the more casual mode. I know there's supposed to be some sort of matchmaking system that tries to deliver "balanced" teamcomps in quickmatch but apparently it isn't smart enough to do things like squaring of stealth heroes against characters with detection options.

The proper play becomes "poo poo your pants in terror, but pre-preemptively."

I mean the entire point of my apparently "smug nerd" post wasn't even that stealth is fine git gud, it's that bursty stealth assassins are always going to rub people the wrong way in a mode where there's no such thing as counterpicking unless I guess you preemptively slampick Tassadar every time you QM, but Blizzard apparently keeps making them so

Yeah, basically. Stealth definitely exacerbates it though. I guess my point was that it is an issue in every MOBA, and they never really learn their lesson. I feel like Valeera could have legs as a "stealth debuffer," which she kinda sorta is already...someone whose job is to gank people with stuns and silences to set them up to be killed but not 100-0ing them herself. Of course the question at that point is whether or not it's worthwhile to have an assassin on your team that's bad at doing damage, which is funnily enough the issue Blizzard ran into in Overwatch when they released Sombra. When it came out that Sombra would be a stealth character people were preemptively bemoaning the death of the game at the hands of unstoppable stealth assassins instagibbing everyone forever...until it turned out that Sombra was so bad at actually killing people that pretty much nobody at any level of play actually likes using her. Like you know how in HotS there's the idea of the stereotypical Nova player? That doesn't exist with Sombra, not at bronze, not at grandmaster, not anywhere, the allure of the game's only hero with invisibility isn't enough to make anyone want to play her in any serious capacity, and Blizzard has steadfastly avoided giving her any buffs that might actually make her better at doing the thing she's worst at so people just shrug and pick Tracer or Soldier 76 or something.
