Man, genji is fun but he really doesn't do enough damage to do much that's useful. He is great chasing down kills if your team can manage 4v5, and occasionally you can hit someone with a triple q for decent damage or some idiot will give you a perfect deflect opportunity, but I don't know that I'd even consider him for anything outside QM. Dragon blade feels unwieldy and horrible

Dragonblade is almost certainly going to get nerfed. It does so much massively more damage than X-Strike, it's easier to hit, it's less mana, kills with it reset Swift Strike....

Apparently Genji is already scoring a winrate above 55% and I'm pretty sure Dragonblade is a big part of it. The rest of his kit is good but not that good (it's comparable to Li-Ming and Tracer).

I've yet to see a genji do even halfway decent with dragonblade. It's almost always X Strike/Shuriken build that does decent. Dragonblade is okay if you go all in on the swift strike build, but it still feels clunky and terrible to me.

What are her good builds? I've been primarily doing a Q build with sometimes doing a blind heavy build if the enemy team is mostly auto attackers.

There are two builds I tend to go. If I'm against a team that doesn't have a lot of autoattacking, I'll go a Q build with pretty much every javelin based skill (and ring of the leech) and hang back throwing tons and tons of piercing, splitting, javelins of death. If they are heavy on autoattackers, take the skills to increase your blind damage and your fend skill. There is something to be said for the auto-attack skill but I am not good at using it properly.

Hi who wants Genji talk from someone who has exclusively played Genji for a few days.

Level 1: I find myself almost always taking Swift as the Wind. Part of staying alive as Genji is being mobile and weaving in and out of combat scenarios, and this talent I think does it best. It helps you when you go in, and when you escape, with no real setup required. You could make an argument for Agile Dismount on big maps with a lot of roaming, which I've taken a few times. Pathfinder is too situational to be useful.

Level 4: I feel like here is where the build paths can start to differ. I've found myself taking Shuriken Mastery more often than not, as the quest is pretty easy to fill for the first tier and the second tier, while nice, isn't required to get value out of the quest. I also find myself really valuing shuriken poke over Swift Strike as a combat tool. However, if you would like to go the Swift Strike build, Strike At the Heart is a great pickup at 4. It bleeds a good amount of extra damage, and you're probably getting move speed out of it too from level 1 so not as risky. Dragon claw is trash.

Level 7: Perfect Defense is the most correct choice here. Deflect is your only form of self sustain, so being able to pop it more is a good thing. Cyber Agility can be okay if you took Agile Dismount at 1, giving you the ability to hop into the fray and survive a bit more. Dodge is extremely situational. I guess maybe you could pick it if the team is full of AA based assassins but eh. Augmented Guard is bad.

Level 10: Dragonblade, in my experience, should never be taken in a shuriken build. You can try DB for a Swift Strike build, because it DOES refresh the swift strike CD when you kill someone, but for me it has never really worked out. Upon activation, you're almost guaranteed to be immediately targeted. X-Strike takes a bit more effort to land, especially for the large damage, but it's more consistent. It gives you a bit of breathing room by being untargetable, has good range, and really hurts if you land it. With a Shuriken based build, I would only ever take X-Strike.

Level 13: A good tier. Shingan can be hard to land but the extra damage is massive if you do. It also makes clearing camps, even alone, especially simple. I recommend it for a Shuriken build. Flow Like Water is obvious for a Swift Strike focused build, because you will be constantly swift striking for a lot of damage. Even Double Jump is a strong ability, as it lets you get out of rough situations pretty quickly and the increased CD isn't especially noticeable. You'll have both charges back by the next fight, most likely.

Level 16: If you aren't maxing Swift Strike, take Reflect. If you are maxing Swift Strke, take Steady Blade. You will be using is so much you will be blasting out huge damage. Never take Final Cut because 1 second extra is terrible.

Level 20: If you take DB at 10, The Dragon Becomes Me is great. You get duration just from hitting enemies, so a couple good swings can more that double the duration on it. With Swift Strike builds, you can get a lot of value from this. Living Weapon is not strong enough to be worthwhile. If you didn't take DB, your decision is really Sharpened Stars or Zanshin. I almost always take Zanshin, as while 6500 damage seems like a lot by the time you hit 20 with even somewhat decent Reflect use you've got it or close to it. Sharpened stars is still a fine choice though, increasing your late game wave clear and team fight impact.

~~~
The more I play Genji, the more I adjust to his playstyle. It feels very different than other assassins, even other highly mobile assassins such as tracer. Genji is most likely not going to be maxing out that hero damage, but as long as he is maintaining decent health throughout a team fight and still contributing somewhat, if things start to favor your team you can almost guarantee no one is leaving this team fight alive. He's strange in that his objective taking isn't anything to write home about, his waveclear isn't great, he dosen't take camps well, and there's very few times he is going to pop out in a lane and instagib someone, but if you want to make crazy flashy plays and feel like screaming OUTPLAYED at every scrub who targets you with a powerful ability, he's really fun. Highlights include: deflecting a li-ming beam with Zanshin for a quick quad kill.
Re: genjitalk
I played a bunch with him last night solo queued and in a group. I found my ult choice to be less of a build decision and more of a situational/comp one - if we had a team with any long roots/stuns or really strong slows I was taking X strike, otherwise Dragonblade. I just found myself doing more overall damage activating DB just offscreen before diving in, unless I was able to consistently land both parts of the x strike hit on 2+ people.
I need to get better with Deflect though. Them telling you your total deflected so far is actually pretty great, it's nice to have an actual metric to judge yourself by.
He seems pretty on-par with Illidan at my MMR level, are people still feeling like his kit is underwhelming overall?
I feel like you get significantly more out of db if you are going the swift strike build due to the refresh on kill. Chopping people to bits as you swing through everything with your talented E makes DB a much more effective option, but I feel like like being able to use X-Strike to go in and using your E to reposition for massive shuriken damage makes it more useful in that build. That said, I can see switching it based on team comp as well. As I've played him more, he isn't anything I'd really write home about but he's fun and flashy.
I've been having a lot of fun with Genji, mainly through the Swift Strike build that was posted here earlier. Though that being said, I don't know when you would really double down on a Shuriken build for him, since it takes away from his bread and butter so much. I see his Q more as a poking tool, so trying to build that into being his main way of dealing damage seems a bit too risky for my liking.
Also, hot take; spacing out Shuriken tosses between his auto attacks instead of hurling all three charges at once helps a great deal in maximizing his DPS.
I enjoy the shuriken build more in games where the enemy has some good hard CC. In those games I tend to be using Swift Strike only to execute or to escape, so I tend to poke a lot more with Shuriken. Also, when you're on the chase for a kill the triple shuriken extra damage talent is huge. It also works on camps and structures, which greatly increases his ability to help during a siege.
2) Her hook is one of the best "WE ARE FIGHTING NOW" signs you can give your team, only superseded by Leap if you take it at 10.
Had an amazing Hanamura comeback last night with some goons. 1-4 on the verge of a loss when we take a teamfight victory, and the team pushes the payload while I set up to take a fort as probius. 1-3, then we push the fort down for 2x shot next. No one on map so we rush to boss to find them fighting it. With the boss at half health, the game explodes into a huge teamfight with the boss eating and killing people as it goes on. We pick up a quad and finish the boss, then get into a payload race against the one person on the enemy team who had already started to push their payload alone. One hell of a close game and games like that are why this game is so enjoyable.
I'd take Horrify over RoD almost every time. RoD is random and requires you sit still for seven seconds to get the full use of it. If you sit still for seven seconds and no one gets to you and fucks you up then RoD is just a win more ability because the enemy team is getting trashed already.
e; not to mention the lvl20 talent for Horrify is actually good and the one for RoD is basically useless.
Stayin in the brush is fine because you soak xp. Always keep an eye on your health bars at your bottom left and save your Z ability for when you need to run out. A lot of people never recall with Vikings which is silly. Getting your bribe stacks is super useful. You can take camps solo and if you ever have the Vikings in the same place they can quickly take camps. I tend to take the revive/summon ult and continue to split. If you take that ult, use it aggressively to bring your Vikings to the front as needed because they can bring a lot of damage and ruin things for your opponent with Jump!
Balor is probably the best of the three to keep alive if you can only keep 1 in early fights, but post 10 I find Erik very important because he can maneuver quickly and take camps/some objectives alone while simultaneously being able to reposition well for dropping the ult
The UI needs to do a better job of communicating when payloads will do extra damage. The display they currently have might as well not even be there for as much as people notice it. (In fact, I bet there's people in this very thread who don't even realize the UI shows when you have multiple shots waiting for a payload -- and I don't mean the little bombs that get attached in the game to the payload itself.)
I'm totally open to the possibility that I'm playing the map wrong, but I've seen people trying to do this a lot of times by now and the result has always been the same. Staying as 4-5 just seems unexploitable to me on this map.
Every second you stall the enemy team without dying is an advantage for you. If you have someone who can pretty easily juke in an out, even a second or two stalling the enemy payload while you finish up yours is a few second advantage for later payloads. 10s per payload that you manage to not die can add up pretty quickly.
Libertine posted:
Hanamura sucks because there's too many things that need to be done simultaneously and if the game isn't a draw that gets settled by the level 16 team fight (like someone above said) then it gets settled by whichever team had one or two members decide on the wrong priority at the crucial time.
I think I would like it more if there were two or three lanes with payload lanes in between them, just clearer lines of (rotate/contest/fight here time go now game players) and no more than one payload at a time (or opposite on one track against each other merging at a team fight). The map just seems like a cluster gently caress at present and I don't think more experience on it will make it better for most.
There is definitely too much poo poo on this map. multiple payloads to push/defend, forts to push in, mercs that give items, etc. There is just too much crap on this map that is new and it feels like a total mess. I don't think I see anyone get the recon camp, ever, and the only time I see the turret taken is when the payload is pushing by it and it's a fast pickup anyway. The support one is nice, but it's still a lovely use of time overall. There is almost always a better place to be than the mercs, and they dont offer enough of a reward to offset it.
