I've been meaning to get into HotS so I've played a couple of matches vs AI and some unranked vs humans and tried out different heroes to get a feel for the different roles. I've also checked out the Reddit post linked to on the first page to understand the basics. Now, i like playing support heroes and I've collected enough to buy at least one hero so any recommendations on what's a good support to start out with?

Thanks for all the tips and help. I've played QMs pretty much the entire afternoon today to get a feel for the heroes. Didn't like playing warriors that much except Johanna, who was fun and seemed very durable. All the support have been fun, especially Malfurion and Lt. Morales. It seems however to take quite a couple of hours to get to level 5 on a hero during the free week. Is the idea that you are supposed to be able to do with all fourteen before you start ranked?

Been trying out Auriel after the new free rotation and I really like playing her. It's fun to have a healer who doesn't rely on mana and I like to aoe poo poo. Seems quite expensive to buy though.

Yeah i feel the same way. Think I finally am starting to recognize like half the heroes through and know if they are tanks, assassins etc. If you want to play some QMs with someone else who's new hit me up, I'm DrDrew in the SAGoons channel.

Bought my first heroes yesterday on a whim since I saw that kharazim and brightwing were on a discount. I played kharazim last week when he was on rotation so I knew that I liked him and brightwing seemed fun so I took a chance.

Brightwing is a boss. Does way more healing than you'd ever believe, like Lucio in overwatch, and phase shift is way stronger than you expect at first. Extremely strong hero, would be my favorite healer if Rehgar didn't exist.

I noticed that. I think I got like 100k healed in my first match without really know what to do. I had some issues remembering to use my damage spell while fighting, think it was because I tried to keep as many as possible in the healing circle, use pixie dust and navigate at the same time. But I am really happy I bought her.

Does this game not have a very large playerbase anymore? I haven't played in years and tried to pick it up last night, only to find that it took 5 minutes to get matched to any player vs player matches. Everyone seemed to be just doing AI matches instead. Is this normal?

I think the game has cool ideas and is fun to play, especially for non-MOBA people like me. Just don't want to wait so long for matches.

My QM queues have been around 30 seconds to 2 min at most, regardless of role.

Getting to the point where I'm kind of tired of playing free heroes in QM. I got Muradin and Malfurion out of boxes, but they're both a little simple and boring to play all the time. Anyone have suggestions for a hero to buy? I enjoy support and warrior roles the most. I like being able to disable enemies and seal kills in team fights, and not being too easy to kill. I had been thinking of Arthas. Is that a good place to start?

I'm like you that I prefer support and warriors and thus far I've found that Rehgar is my absolute favorite. He can put out some good healing but he is also very versatile and you can easily help your team to finish off kills by using ghost wolf and earth totem. Super fun all-around.

This week's free rotation is going to steal all my gems and gold. I played Sylvanas once and instantly liked her so I bought her and then I played Arthas and instantly liked him so I'll probably blow my last gold on getting him. Then I will have at least 3 of every hero kind except specialists where I only have two. Still feels like a decent foundation to build on.

Anyone know of a good tanking video or tutorial? I love playing them but my win rate in that role in QM is horrible. I am above 50% on all other roles yet down at around 42 as a tank which sucks. I am aware of concepts such as peeling and body blocking (not saying i am good at it, though) but I feel like I have a hard time knowing how to engage properly and such without overextending or just being stupid.

ETC vs anub, idk, doesn't really matter, my thought process was that he's got dibble and anub is pretty different.

Azmo's just a weird character. He does nothing I enjoy in a moba so I don't recommend him in general. He's already got Nazeebo if he wants to siege hard.

Reminder that the guy was asking for core heroes - ie safe picks on every map/comp - not noob heroes.

As quite a newbie as well, can you elaborate on what you mean with Uther and lili being bad at macro?

Did my placement matches for the first time. Started out good with 4 straight wins and were playing with Plat 4-5 people but after that I really faltered and ended up at gold 3. Pretty okay with that though, considering this is my first moba and I'm still a bit confused when to do what. I have however realized that Nazeebo should be first ban on every map because he has been loving up every one of my teams whenever we faced him regardless of our comp or what we do.

I can't play Support or Tank in QM. I'm like 1-10 as Morales and 2-9 as Diablo. I know the common factor is me, but it doesn't feel like I'm doing anything wrong (at least on the Support front, I could probably learn to Warrior better) - just because I can't really carry a game on my own and have to rely on both the matchmaking giving a comp that works and teammates that aren't complete idiots. It's very frustrating.

At least my Assassin/Nazeebo game is >50%.

Might be that specific heroes that trip you up. I am 50%+ win rate on tanks yet have like 25% win on etc after 20 games or so.

Grubby has been playing some D.Va lately and it turns out that the Rushdown talent is now capable of letting D.Va be one of the fastest lane rotators around. Interesting considering that grubby seems quite critical on his builds page of picking big shot.

Basically if the build date is anything from before like September/October I'd give it some thought before copying it blindly.

Yeah I’ve started to follow them a lot less rigidly nowadays since I feel comfortable and experienced enough to somewhat adapt the build to the comp and map. Still like them as a rough guide however.
