I gotta say, "Ashes of Creation" is a pretty good name for a Alexander delarge kickstarter mmo megathread.

Have you considered a different, arguably better way of spending your money, namely shredding it in little pieces, throwing it in the air and running through it in your underwear screaming "it's the summer of (insert your name)"?

Save it for the wild west MMO being built for $500k

Risc1911
Mar 1, 2016

Another $700k MMO Kickstarter promising the MMO revolution.

Setting up an office with a server infrastructure for development and alpha testing real world MMO network load and scenarios. Paying qualified developers that can actually develop server code for a MMO that cost $100k per year/per developer. Paying the useless cunts they have now that can't write a single line of code. Offering money for referrals?

Yeah, sounds totally reasonable. Where do i sign up for this pyramid scheme scam?

Seriously though. More games that aren't just glorified skinner boxes is a good thing.

All of the "concept" art looks like high fantasy jizz of an art major with no experience. Not to mention that it is completely useless for game development.

-does it look fun?
-what about spawning bosses in newbie city?
-what about narrow hallways in cities or sniping from windows?

-labour intensity of creating different types of homes with different functions. Farming Smelting etc.. all needs to be coded and modelled.
-creating assets anywhere on the map. With 1000's of houses?
-ofc you can expand houses.multiplying the amount of assets on map.
-fps problems with only 2 assets on the tech demo.

You know what game let one player dumpster a bunch of people in a city with a monster? World of Warcraft. Sure, you weren't supposed to, but it was a popular pastime for Hunters back in the day to kite one of the worldbosses into Orgrimmar (or Stormwind on the alliance side) and watch it just murder the poo poo out of people who were otherwise just trying to hit the auction house or the bank, or that were AFK in what they thought would be a safe area. There would be times where people couldn't organize a proper group to kill the boss, and it would just go around one shotting people until that part of the city was a ghost town and it either de-aggro'd or a raid geared tank and healer showed up to pull it out of the city.

Also I love the "people will always call something that is being successful a scam" comment. :allears: Ashes of Creation - Already a Success(ful Scam)

The finest moment in WoW was the TBC launch event when they were spawning kazak into capital cities intentionally

The best thing would be for them to take the money, slap together a bog standard KMMO style grinder using UE4 with some passing references to whatever unique features were promised (we'll call those "future content updates" that may or may not ever appear) then release with a shiny in game cash shop.

Then go F2P after the first year like everything else does. Oh you spent $300 on what amounts to a single costume in this otherwise forgettable MMO?

Good for you friend, good for you.

(forgot to mention this but just in case anyone wasn't already assuming it: gamble boxes out the arse too)

Getting your pet living bomb on baron then unsummoning it, leaving it unsummoned until after the raid then summoning it in the AH was better than the zombie plague. The TBC launch event made the capitals death zones you could not enter for hours or even on smaller servers days. It was the same situation kiting a green dragon into org got you, but done intentionally by the devs. The only thing that disrupted the flow of the game to the same extent was launch day plagued blood on hakkar.

There was also that quest that flagged you hostile to your own faction NPCs temporarily and you could use it to cause the battelmasters (for the PvP queues) to spam their one-shot AoE cleave around them, and because they were targeting a player of the same faction, it would hit people that they should have normally not been able to damage, IE all the people queueing for PvP in the room. You could lock down all battleground PvP on a given server for like half an hour until the debuff ran out.

Goons are so wildly different as a community from one game to the next. I've found that the FFXIV goons and the Overwatch goons are generally fun to game with if you're like me and like to game as a way to relax though.

Never forget :australia:

The best part about that was I'd already bailed on the main goon guilds in Archeage after being in alpha wave 1 because I saw all that poo poo coming a mile away. Turbospergs who hate each other in the same guild forming their own cliques? Yes I'm sure that will end well.

archeage was fun for like 5 days or so.

i bet the ship splinter goons had good times even after that for a bit.

that game had nothing going on, except maybe the ship gameplay and enough "sandboxiness" to allow for a wee bit of scamming and market exploitation. some goons made good money during the release hype

the server we had picked was a regular goondom for like a week or two, which was almost as long as the hype for the game lasted altogether.
