Perhaps a dumb question: is there a beer sheets-equivalent for IDP? My dynasty league is introducing defensive players and the draft is this weekend. I am woefully unprepared. Anyone have some recommended resources?

I have a dynasty question.

.5 PPR, someone offered me

His:
Frank Gore
Davante Parker
2017 3rd rd pick (8/10)

My:
Jarvis Landry
Johnathan Williams

I think this is probably an easy "No", but a few things make me hesitate.

1. My RBs are dire. I have
Lamar Miller
Matt Forte
CJ Procise
Deandre Washington
Jalen Richard
TJ Yeldon
Kenneth Dixon

Whatever rookie I draft 5th overall (Likely Cook, Mixon, or CMC, whoever falls to me)

2. Davante Parker has a lot of hype and Cutler can throw a deep ball

I want to keep Williams because Buffalo let go of some of their other RBs, and I don't think they drafted any, so he's one shady injury from playtime. I also think they must like him at least somewhat if they let Gillislee go. I know Gore only has value for this year MAYBE, so it would be a bad deal long term, but could help me this year. But I may be in the same boat next year if Gore retires, and I'll be kicking myself if Williams turns into anything.

Overall I also think Landry is better than Parker, but Miami seems to be hedging their bets on Parker. Ultimately I think I stand my ground here and hope whatever rookie RB I draft can get some carries this year, but I thought I'd run it by you fine folks for shits and giggles.

I've got a draft tonight for a 12 man standard league and I'm planning my strategy. I'm pick #2.

So obviously I go Bell/DJ with the first pick. It gets a little tricky at the 2/3 turn. Almost all the receivers I want there have usually been taken already in mocks. If TY Hilton falls, I think I take him, but if not, I've been waiting on WR (since it's standard). I'm picking Lamar Miller/Gronk/Rodgers/Carlos Hyde here in some mocks. What are other people thinking in this position?

Waiting on WR can be rough, but I've still been able to get guys like Benjamin/Diggs/Fitzgerald/Edelman later, and having a strong core of Gronk, Bell, and Miller seems like a good strategy. Otherwise, if Hilton doesn't fall, I wind up taking Doug Baldwin or Amari Cooper at the 2/3 turn, which just feels bad to me.

Any else a bit leery of Hilton given Luck's bum shoulder?

The reports I'm seeing today says Luck should be ready week 1, and if not it should only be 1-2 weeks where he's out. Hilton still pulled over 1200 yards and a handful of TDs in 2015 when Luck only played 7 games (granted I think that was with Hasselbeck). I'm a bit worried about him but I think he's good value for where he's being drafted.

So I just drafted in my 12 man ESPN standard work league. I drafted second overall. Here's what I wound up with:

I feel pretty good about this. I'm a bit worried about Dak as my starting QB but I feel like Stafford on the bench provides a level of safety.

I took Dez in my 2/3 turn, which I had not planned on doing, but he fell to me unexpectedly, and I knew I could get Fournette or Guerley after the turn assuming the guy in front me didn't go 3 rb (he didn't.). I could have taken Rodgers with one of those picks, but decided to wait on QB (against Beersheet's value levels but seemed good at the time.)

I took Olsen at the bottom of the fourth when I could have had Crabtree, Keenan Allen, or Ty Montgomery. I still feel good about that. Hill in the 5th as a WR2 seemed like a no-brainer. From there I kinda just filled things out according to what fell to me, though I'm pretty proud of snagging Ware for my flex. What do you guys think?

I had both last year and I certainly liked Evans more. He was more consistent and was a stud for most of the year. Julio was kinda boom-or-bust and was out during the playoffs which really soured me on him, but of course he might stay healthy this year. Granted Evans did hardly anything during playoffs...

I don't know though, Shanahan leaving can't be good for Julio can it? I get the YAC arguement and I've seen Evans drop plenty of balls, but it could go either way honestly.

I watched the Bengals/Bucs pre-season game and, for what it's worth, they were targeting Evans as much as ever. I still think he'll be a top 5 WR.

There's a lot of trash numbers out there in fantasy football land, but rotoviz does a good job of identifying and exploiting the cases where statistics and machine learning are actually useful. But they're also perfectly happy to draw from the tape. This offseason, they interviewed a local beat writer for every single team about things like usage and role, offensive line quality and depth, camp standouts, offensive and defensive philosophy etc. They then spent a few minutes after each interview to numerically explore some hypotheticals guided by the beat reporter's observations (e.g. what the range of outcomes could be given the usage and distribution expected by the reporter etc.). It was a great series. Actually, I should mention that the podcasts are free, though there are a lot of them (a few a day) and only a handful a week are really worth carving out time for.

So they don't like Olsen? it feels so hard to lock up a good TE this year. Someone reached for Gronk (early second), someone reached for Kelce (early third). trying to stream TE was a nightmare last year. I spent a fifth rounder on Olsen and that seems like a fair price for consistency, but I guess we'll see.

Well, I got the 10th pick in my .5 PPR 12 man draft, which I was not thrilled about. The draft proved my point as I was not seeing the players I wanted by the time i picked in most rounds. Here's what I wound up with:

I went Rodgers/Kelce at the 3/4 turn which is pretty unconventional for me, but most players I liked in that range were gone. I got plenty of RB fliers but both Mcfadden and Jacquiz went earlier than I thought they would, so I couldn't pair them with Martin. I'm thinking about offering Derrick Henry for Quiz. Bad idea?

I'm curious what you guys think about this draft--in mocks the later picks are where I've struggled to find a team I like the looks of.

I was particularly impressed with Hill. I know Hunt looked amazing, but Hill looked like Antonio Brown out there. He caught everything that came his way and was targeted like a true #1. I see why the Chiefs cut Maclin now.

How are people feeling about Kelce? My team with him is looking not as strong, but I am still optimistic about his season. I think the Pats schemed to take him out of the game, and he still caught 5(?) balls. I think he's still on track for a big year.

A decent set of games last night. Anderson and Cook look like bell cows, would have liked to see a touchdown from them though. YPC-wise I don't think they were THAT impressive, but they look like they're going to get a lot of volume, and with the gameflow I think NO/LA were stacking the box.

Gordon looked pretty beastly. I may regret drafting Evans over him, but time will tell. I won this week with Evans on "Bye" so, so far so good.

This is one game, and a game in which the WR1 was knocked out at that. Am I the only one thinking this is massive overreaction? (I don't even have Howard anywhere, either, so isn't just wishful thinking)

You're not crazy. Howard was never going to catch a lot of passes--his hands aren't good. Cohen won't get more than 3-5 rushes a week, but he will catch a poo poo ton of catches. I think Cohen fills the WR void in Chicago and Howard continues to be the bellcow in the run-game. Chicago needs to get them both on the field more since they're the only playmakers left on this offense.

The other thing people are overlooking is that Cohen is like 5'6 and 180 lbs. No way that guy will be running between the tackles 20 times a game.

Now might actually be a good time to buy-low on Howard. I do think both guys will have value moving forward (Cohen in PPR specifically)

I decided to roll with JAX as my defense for Week 2+. I've read at least twice here that JAX is not a startable option against TEN and I'm seeing more reasons against this assessment than for.

TEN does not have the history of being some offensive juggernaut like NO, ATL, GB or NE. TEN is the 12th ranked offense after Week 1 and Mariota's stat line against OAK was 256 yards, 61% completion rate, 0 passing TDs, 1 rushing TD (half of his 2016 total). His historical completion rate is low 60's. An OAK defense that is not know for stoutness limited both Demarco Murray and Derrick Henry and the exotic smashmouth to just 69 yards rushing (10.5 fantasy points in 1 ppr) and 256 passing yards. There are no game-breaking "just get the ball in their hands" wideouts on that team, which include Corey Davis (remains to be seen), Eric Decker and Rishard Matthews (whom I respect as a 50/50 jump-ball grabber but doesn't possess other elite attributes like speed).

So that's the opposing team this week. Here's the remaining JAX schedule and tell me it doesn't read like the starting credits of a blockbuster porno:

JAX vs BAL
JAX @ NYJ
JAX vs PIT
JAX vs LAR
JAX @ IND
JAX vs CIN
JAX vs SD
JAX @ CLE
JAX @ ARI
JAX vs IND
JAX vs SEA
JAX vs HOU
JAX @ SF
JAX @ TEN

Wow. Look at all the bold teams that you want to be playing against.

Out of the remaining 5 teams, only 1 (PIT) puts the fear of God into me in terms of teams that can really rack up the points against JAX, particular with Ben at home.

Doug Marrone was a defensive-minded coach and one thing he did good was draft a young roster with talent and create a situation where key players like Calais Campbell could be acquired in free agency to plug up decencies.

I am putting my flag down :patriot: on the Jacksonville Jaguars being a D/ST to own that will remove streaming from your weekly waiver considerations.

As of last waiver period, ownership in JAX jumped 15% in ESPN leagues to 96%, but do keep an eye out for them being dropped ahead of Week 3 vs BAL or Week 5 @ PIT.

You are really tempting me. I really want to pick them up but I'd be dropping Carolina who gets the Bills this week. They will likely have a better week than Jacksonville, but if the Jags ball out again this week, there's no way I'll get them on waivers next week...
